The fact that we can win games (decisively) after not showing up the first four minutes continues to amaze me. I'm impressed.

(Channeling my inner @Fighter of the Nightman )

The team is locked in on scouting, effectively limiting their opponents' top scorers.

Mark Sears/Alabama - 0 Pts on 0/5 Shooting
Fland/Arkansas - 8 on 2/12
Barnhizer/NU - 17 on 7/23
Tonje/Wisco - 14 on 5/15
Lanier/UT - 17 on 5/17
Perkins/Miznoz - 18 on 5/11
Jackson Shelstad/Oregon - 9 on 4/11
Osobor/Washington - 9 on 2/8
Ace Baldwin (DNF) + Nick Kern/Penn State - 13 on 5/17

An encouraging trend, it really really is...

Man I hope we can bring everyone back. Would be so nice to have that continuity!
Pretty sure with the Pavia ruling that everyone could technically return.

Obviously Kasparis is going pro but I don't see anyone else declaring for the draft at this point. Will also see some people transferring out and on but they could actually retain a pretty major part of the current team.

Some toughts...
..

- Will continues to worry me...not talent wise, just where he is development wise. They were letting him run point the last handful of minutes to get him going...but he is just not there yet. His body is too frail, he's a good athlete but he's not a burner or crazy leaper. Right now, IMO he needs to find other ways to help them team aside from taking it 1 on 1 everytime. Cut, make a pass (he did have 5 assists), rebound, run the floor hard, get loose balls...he may turn out to be awesome, but he just isn't right now and I want to see progression in other areas. For the love of God come back for a 2nd year...an off-season with Fletch and dedication on the gym will get him where he wants to be. Stay the course. And again...thank God for Tre White.

- Our defense is...miles and miles and miles and miles better then I thought it would ever be. We smothered them.
...

I'm with you. My biggest concern on Riley is that he isn't playing smarter. He still tries to be a one man show, and the skills are not there yet. Both the GameIQ and the handles. Unless there is a marked improvement, I don't think he gets drafted this year. If he learns to play in the offense, he will be great. I hope he sticks around and has a fantastic SO year after spending the summer with Fletch.

That defense was a pleasure for the first 30m of the game. They then got a bit sloppy due to the score.

Morez made a case today. I think he outplayed Ivisic during his minutes. That said, I don't see him getting that many more minutes due to his frequent fouls. They only allow 5/game. I do expect him to get 3-4 fouls worth of tick vs. USC.

Announcers: Illinois has two 30+ point wins in conference and the rest of the conference has 2 combined. Didn’t see that happening against Oregon and PSU.

High octane offense and great D and rebounding!
The defense part is what has me convinced this could be a special team. High octane offenses sputter at times but defense travels. The fact that this team seems to be excelling on both sides of the ball is a potential differentiator from last year's squad.

Two years ago we had head cases that really turned into a pretty disappointing season. Every player is different. Circumstances are different.

Both DGL and White had the history that suggested that they might be head cases. Instead BU has molded them into team players and major contributors on a top 10 team. A testament to him and these guys who seemed to have settled in so well.

One more thing: Ben and Morez will rightfully get a whole ton of love tonight, but Tre White is a straight up baller. I did not expect to feel so good about the ball being in his hands. He has a maturity to his game and fits in seamlessly (hence having three "quiet" 17+ point games over the last three).

Both DGL and KB also play well off-ball too. I could see all 3 getting lots of tick. Will KB make the leap though?
I'm fairly certain Ty will be leaving. I hope to keep both Boswell and DGL but I expect Brad to go get a big guard in the off-season too. It's pretty apparent that he likes positional size.

1- Great for Ben & I hope this carries over a la Marcus...we're scary when he plays well.
2- God I hope we get a year 2 of Morez (MJ) and Riley, if they're here next year I'd bet money they make all b10 teams.
3- Booth just seems lost. Preseason I'd wondered if he would compete with Ben...now he seems like an obvious transfer.

Booth physically just seems to far away for this level. He needs to redshirt and hit the weights hard.
