The other thing to note - per his own Instagram bio, his full first name is spelled Niccolò. That accent on the end tells you two things:
1. The emphasis goes on the last syllable
2. The final vowel is pronounced \ɔ\ - more like the vowel in "caught", not the one in "go".
as in...

He was only a sophomore when the injuries started. His whole sophomore season was a mess. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that before his sophomore season, he was on some mock draft boards. I could be misremembering.
There was some serious talk nationally that offseason that if Andre took a step up his sophomore season with regards to being more in control of his plays and limiting the bad turnovers that he was going to be a lottery pick. He was viewed as one of the top college point guards that preseason and was on the Wooden, Naismith, and Cousy preseason watch lists. I think people forget how electric freshman year Curbelo truly was based on everything that happened with him after it. He was viewed as a possible generational PG at the time and in the alternate universe where Curbelo returned focused on improving his mental game and never got concussed multiple times in a 2 week period, at least one NBA team with a top 15 pick that year wouldn't have passed on the potential to be drafting a kid with the floor of Jason Williams. That talk all died out rather quickly, obviously, but yeah, Curbelo was in a pretty elite position going into sophomore year.

i would be surprised if Moretti logged 20 minutes a game moving forward. I like his skill set, but his ability to stay in front of quicker, smaller guards would be an issue and bigger guards would take him to the woodshed. If you factor in the constant switching on defense, he would be a real liability on defense. It would be the same thing you see from Dainja.
If only there was some alternate defensive scheme that could prevent this problem... There must not be though, since we haven't done it.

Illinois Loyalty:

Win a game -- get into discussion on name spelling and if we would be proud to have our daughter cuss on national tv

Lose a game -- the end of the world is coming and the team has no chance in March

Don't ever change.

Win a game – We’re great! Top 4 Seed! We can beat anybody! This is Our year!

Lose a game – We suck. Everyone sucks. Life sucks. Everyone’s got to go. Full rebuild again. I’m going to quit this team forever.

This is the mark of a true roundball fanatic that knows how to take this game way too seriously... and love that you do. Losing all sense of balance and judgment and not caring that you lost all that. And never planning to ever get that stuff back.

Speaking of which, can someone reach out to the throng of “fans” that wouldn’t watch the Iowa game and give them the news about the big win. 🤦‍♂️

Going back and rewatching the Latulip video is something I would recommend for a lot of you guys. The defense overall was actually pretty good. Some of the shots Iowa were hitting in the first half were absolutely absurd, and I think it evened out towards the end of the game. The energy was way better, hope to see them continue to make strides defensively

Yes, and we did make defensive adjustments in this game.

From Walkon at IlliniBoard:

During his Friday media session, Underwood indicated he was considering some ”subtle” changes on defense. Those changes were immediately apparent as he scrapped the perimeter switching from the start and played most every ball screen straight up. Hawkins remained in drop coverage, but guys were fighting through screens on the top of the floor and forcing Iowa into tough mid-range shots. The Hawkeyes - especially Josh Dix - were up to the task in the first half as they shot a scorching 62% from the floor. That said, there were positive signs. Only 12 of Iowa’s 43 first half points were scored at the rim and they only made three 3-point shots and four three throws. The majority of their points came from two point jump shots. That earned an eyebrow raise from me as that type of offensive output is not normally sustainable. And sustainable it wasn’t. In the second half the Hawkeyes shot only 35% from the floor - including 5/17 on two point jump shots. PROGRESS.

Nice, did not know the FG percentage was that low for Iowa in the 2nd half. That's a very good offense to hold to 35% shooting and forcing 17 mid range shots in a single half.

I watched Nico and two thoughts came to me

1. this is what a healthy Curbelo would have looked like
2. this is what a bona fide portal transfer seasoned PG would have looked like
Ummm.... A healthy, mentally stable Curbelo is / would be light-years ahead of Nico, as of right now. Not only not in the same ballpark, they aren't in the same galaxy. Belo could get anywhere on the court that he wanted with his handles, and he threw some passes that were just filthy. IMO, had he not self-destructed, he would already be in the league! Also, Belo never went 2/2 from 3 point range. They are completely different players. Further, while Nico played an admirable game, and I am hopeful for his continued development, he is not yet at the level of a seasoned, portal transfer PG. He definitely added more of a "true point guard" feel to the team, but he is not YET the answer at point guard. Seriously hoping that he becomes as good as some people are already ascribing him to be.
