Illinois 96, Northwestern 66 Postgame

It reminded me of when Ayo was out and we steam-rolled Michigan at home. Something is clicking well for this team right now

I too was confused why Dan didn’t play much in the second half- obviously CoHawk was balling, but with his lingering knee issue - get him out of there and let Dain get the playing time- it didn’t make sense
I feel good about the team as long as we avoid a contagion of conjunctivitis in March

(Seriously though, as frustrating as that was, how much of an absolute warrior was TF?)

Dain didn’t get minutes, but one of our biggest offensive advantages right now is Coleman bringing their big man out of the paint and clearing the lane for other guys to get to the rim. That doesn’t happen when Dain is on the floor.
Couple that with our switch everything defensive identity & Dain is just an awkward fit.
He’s a great talent, but you kind of have to commit to play his style when he’s in & that’s not what we do best.

This is a great, short breakdown of how we are hunting shots and creating spacing for "booty ball" and cutters using CH as the 5 to extend opponent's coverage and create space for us to attack the paint, hit cutters or find open 3's. Also explains what many have said about why DD isn't getting a ton of time in the system.

Yup, that’s gonna be the key against Purdue. We’re bigger than they are 1-3. How effectively will Ty and Marcus be able to punish their defenders in the paint with Edey roaming? How much will Edey/TKR be willing to commit to helping with Quincy and Coleman spacing out deep a pass away?

This will be a chess match between two high-level teams.

FWIW, if I’m Painter, I’m starting Gillis for the first time this season and sticking him on Domask. Smith-Jones-Loyer is just too small to handle our lineup, especially with Coleman bringing Edey away from the hoop.

Pretty easy to see why Purdon’t & Illinois are the highest ranked B1G teams…

I watched the DD assist on the fast break in slo-mo, and it was a look away pass. His eyes were on the left corner when he passed to the right. Pretty cool from 6'9" 270 lbs. On his playing time, my concern is less with DD, and more with QG, CH, and MD all playing 35 minutes. I just don't think that is sustainable, and if they don't get a break up 30 points late, when will they? Indy indicated that it was to send a message with this game, and he is usually right, so I get that. I just hope that DD sees how Harmon struggled earlier, but was ready when his time came. IMO, there will come a time that we will need Dain to step up, and I hope he is ready when it does.
agree - no way they held DD out of 2nd half to rest him. don't understand the lack of subbing the last 3 games (all blow out wins) I believe Illinois had 2 starters in the game with about 1 minute to play in each of those 3 blow out wins. Potential impact on guys playing 30+ minutes a game now vs future games.

Boy, after another blow out win, it is sure more fun to discuss playing time vs how if xyz happened we could of won that game.

I’m guessing they are just trying to build chemistry. Losing an All American level, 30 + minute a game starter changes everyone’s role to some extent.
These guys are mostly 4th & 5th year guys. Playing 30 minutes twice a week shouldn’t wear them down. It’s not like there are back to backs like in the NBA.

I think he may have been too busy running Illinois Loyalty.

The starters on this team are in top physical condition, thanks in part to Fletch and their dedication to fitness. If they tire our reserves can thrive.

Greg & Carter are a great listen, super complimentary of our team. Tyler Underwood gave them a tour of our facilities before our game against MSU last year, they were also interviewed by WCIA and have a full length YouTube video documenting the experience for those interested.
I agree, and while their newfound Illini fandom initially was all about clicks, I believe they now appreciate, respect, and fully embrace our team, fanbase, culture, campus, all of it. Remember, Greg coined the term "Daddy Brad," mostly out of frustration over our dominance of scUM but also in admiration.

I also believe that they lurk here and subtly leak info from here into the mainstream, if you can call a YouTube channel mainstream. And Greg does host Field of 68 After Dark sometimes. So as we creep closer to the point where TSJ's return becomes likely and then imminent, Sleepers and Greg can be useful for swaying public opinion and planting the seeds of doubt about the integrity of the case and helping outsiders who don't know TSJ to understand how ludicrous it was to suggest he could ever commit such a heinous crime.

So, to Carter and Greg, welcome to Illini Nation. We appreciate the good vibes.

The offensive rebound was an air ball that fell right to him.
Well, he still tracked the ball and was in position for the rebound. The defensive player didn't, and that's why it worked. How is that different than a normal offensive rebound?

That's like saying all rebounds are just luck because of where they bounce, which is sometimes true.

These guys absolutely crack me up. Their banter is top notch, and I love banter. They also are quite good and knowing the players on many teams. I listen to all of their stuff at this point. Pretty high comedy, IMO.

Early preview of conference efficiency margin (Rutgers still has only played 1 game so their data is super skewed), but to give an idea of just how good Illinois has been through 2 conference games:

So....yeah, they've been good. So good their opponents have looked terrible in comparison.
