Illinois 96, Northwestern 66 Postgame

There was an insider who stated before the season that Marcus was going to be our 2nd best player. I laughed at the time.

I am no longer laughing. Absolute domination against the MildCats

Illini fans, we have 4 legitimate, potential All B10 players on this team. TSJ, CH, QG, and MD all have a chance. Credit to BU and the players for not folding, and actually, seem to have been able to come together even more than they were before this week - and that was already at a high level. They deserve the success they are having, deserve the top 10 ranking regardless of TSJ's status, and seem to be settling into roles and that bodes well for a very special season.

Also, make no mistake, Illini fans deserve this team as well. Love watching an unselfish, connected team that seem to play for each other as much as themselves. ILL!

Years ago, facing a true moment of uncertainty for one of my first major professional projects as a young adult and looking disaster pure in his eyes, my mother said to me: every hero has his or her moment of darkness.

As wildly unexpected and dream threatening as this scenario with TSJ is, it is also, in absolute terms, an opportunity for all of us - the team, Illini Nation - to grow our resilience and dignity in the face of adversity. Because, in the end, it can be said that this is what life ultimately is.

Perhaps we will one day tell of this season with nostalgia in our eyes and with heart in our aged voices; tell the story about this tribe of the orange cloth, who, in our moment of adversity, demonstrated a newfound strength, a freshly formed dignity.

In many respects and by many definitions: this program and its larger family of supporters will be better than okay.

Seemed to me the coaching staff did a great job scouting and preparing the team for this one. Illini really took advantage of Northwestern defense’s double-teaming, by sending and finding a cutter from the opposite side for the easy score. Seemed Illini came into the game expecting to do that.

I think Brad kept the starters rolling late because he wanted to win by 30 and send a message to the bigten and all of college basketball that we are still a damn good team.

Agreed, and no complaints from me this time. The biggest threat to a connected team isn't going cold - it's going slack. He clearly wanted to challenge his guys to not let up. You can't practice playing a full 40 in front of a crowd. I'm not sure it's always on purpose with Brad, but tonight I'll guess it was.
