Illinois at Maryland, Saturday, October 31st, 11:00am CT, FS1

Lol, I completely get it and I agree. We SHOULD win, it SHOULD be walloping, but I would not be surprised to see us win something like 31-10
If we win 31-10, I will be ecstatic.
31-10 and I pop some Veuve Clicquot afterward. Last time I saw us play in College Park it took a walk-off Caleb Griffin FG to win. I'll settle for something only a bit less nerve-wracking and will be happy. The Terps on Saturday truly will be the proverbial Forrest Gump box of chocolates.

I appreciate your optimism but see no evidence that this team is capable of walloping anyone in P5.

I respectfully suggest instead that "This should be an outscoring" per the MSU game (MSU having an offense, along with Michigan's, way worse that the Terps, at rock bottom in the entire D-1, not only P5.) Conservatively, that's probably as good as it gets. Then again, it would be a delight to see our D shut down an opposing team for 4Q. I'm still utterly baffled by last Saturday's game but Want To Believe.
I mean outside of the first possession on Saturday, that is exactly what we did to Oregon. Can we replicate that success against MD, probably not.

We don't need to limit MD to 10 points to win though. I expect the Illini to score at least 30 points (of the power conference games, MD's best defensive scoring total was vs VT and that was 35 points), and given the Lunney wrinkles to the gameplan, I expect the MD defense to struggle mightily.

I will be happy if we win by any score. We are not good enough to take any game for granted, particularly on the road. UM has decent talent, probably better talent than us to be honest. They have just been very poorly coached, which I hope doesn't change now that Lox is gone

We should be able to run all over them. Marylands defense is right there with MSU

Back when I was at Ill, that would have been worth $125! That was tuition in the late '60s. Probably worth a little more now....
They might get three students to take them up on it.
Insane. That's just over $1200 today. It was about $6.5k/semester in the early 2010s. Quick search says it hasn't gone up too much since then, but still 5x what it would be if it kept pace with inflation. Even crazier are the acceptance rates. It's currently in the low 40s...

turnovers will play a big part in who wins this game.

The cost of education has far outpaced the rate of inflation. in 1975 my tuition was $475. I have to wonder if the quality of education has kept up with the cost increase.

Locksley was always a beast Recruiter. His DC and Baltimore area connections landed us Arrelious Benn and Vontae Davis (RIP) on that 2007 Rose Bowl team, among others.

Also wild to think that Zook was back on Locksley's staff at Maryland the last few years as an assistant/staffer. Crazy times.

In hindsight, it was kind of insane. In the mid-seventies my dorm room and board was more than twice my tuition. My final decision was Illinois or Carnegie-Mellon. $700/yr versus $7000/yr. I'm certain the difference now between state and private is not 1:10.

In fall of ‘73 I paid $353 per semester for tuition. Two semester’s room and board at Hendrick House was $1400, so yes, room and board was 2X tuition. Combined they were $2100 for the year.

Google AI says a meal contract alone was just $15 per week at HH. The food was outstanding. Garcia’s introduced their pizza by the slice on Wright St for about $1 in that time frame. The Federal minimum wage was $1.60 in ‘73, so you could feed yourself well for ten hours of work. The current effective minimum wage around here is $16 —-10X the 1973 wage.
