not a vocal leader but the keeper of the flame of hope and desire. Got to love the attitude and respect that he loves playing at Illinois and for Coach.

Man I hope KN and MH get a chance to go to the dance next year!

Some times they don't have a choice....oh wait that doesn't happen @ Illinois.:)

No doubt! I just don't see that happening with anyone currently on our roster. Wait, I take that back. I can see the Black situation perhaps going that route, but wouldn't put any money down on it.

That's what everybody thought regarding Colbert, Cosby, Henry, etc. :)

More likely to transfer.

I don't really see this happening this offseason with most everyone playing substantially this season. Now after next season if the amount of minutes go down for some they may. Especially with a large '17 class coming.

Not really sure how to present this information because it's probably the only time I'll have 'inside' information, but anyway here it goes:

One of our current players has a very strong desire to be a part of the CoB but he obviously is not at this current time. If he is not given the ability to be a part of the college of business, he most likely will transfer. Decisions come out in May/June.

I trust where I got this information, it is VERY close to the source.

As with most things on this board and 'inside' information, at the end of the day, who the hell knows what'll happen, but this is an interesting perspective.

Sounds like it's JCL. He's always had an interest in the College of Business and I think he met with Dean DeBrock during his on campus visit before he committed.

Who know if it is true or not, but maybe JCL does not see the promise in next year's team and this coaching staff that others on this board do. If he did transfer out, that would be a pretty big indictment in my opinion.

That being said, if they cannot get this kid into the college of business, shame on us.

We've become accustomed to terrible news, and this certainly qualifies.

JCL.
Cue the message board meltdown.

Oh good, now we're to the "pure speculation becomes fact" portion of the season.

He was just named that scholar athlete thing last week and in the release it states his major as community health. On the other hand if that is his GPA, a 3.25, it is beyond me why he would not be accepted into the school of business. That is a time when both Groce and Whitman need to pull every flippin string they have. There would be no excuses to lose a kid like that once he is in the school but not accepted by the CofB.

Can someone fill me (us) in on the criteria for acceptance into the CoB?

He can apply to the CofB at the end of his freshman year. The cumulative GPA for transfers accepted into the CoB from 2010-2015 was 3.71, however, GPA is not the only thing looked at.

I'm very excited about the minutes our freshman received this year, that experience can not be replaced. I'm most excited moving forward to see how they couple this experience with the development of their bodies with a full offseason under Coach Fletcher. Fletch seems to be an incredible asset to this program as he has played and seems to know exactly what basketball players need. Obviously, it ultimately is up to the player, but Mav's physical development during the season has been amazing and he has seen the results pay off for him.

Basgere is very good but Fletch has the inside on basketball as a player...particularly when it comes to bigs. Groce's offense relies on big men that run like gazelles to create the uptempo style he wants. Rim runs, fast screens and pic and pops create mismatches and challenge defenses. I think Fletch understands the needs and will reshape bodies. JG has been known to have timed miles every Monday morn in the summer and kids were able to outwork the opposition. Fletch is really well suited experience wise and with knowledge to reform some physiques

Agree with posters who have already mentioned that this is a test for our new AD.
Strong scholar himself, says we will win. Time to go to work, Mr. Whitman.

Wait so do all students have to apply once they're already on campus or did this hypothetical student athlete just not make the cut when he first enrolled?

I am assuming the latter. Lots of students don't qualify for Engineering and Business from high school, but hope to move after freshman year. Have a co-worker whose freshman son is going through the same process for Engineering in a few months.

The hypothetical student athlete didn't make the cut when he first enrolled but can apply at the end of his freshman year to transfer into the CoB.

I think one of my biggest concerns is how Groce will handle the rotation. He already used some weird combinations. Sometimes its hard to get in a rhythm if lots of guys will be playing.

Little surprised coming out of Lalu that he didn't qualify straight away. I would believe that he was guided to take the easy route to ease the transition
