Two good reasons:
1) I NEED A JOB
2) Assistant football coaches are nomads anyway; many move around almost annually. The turnover is immense. And there is a finite number of Power Five conference jobs.
Say what you will, Cubit is putting together a quality staff of Journeyman coaches.

Could be ... And I really hope so ... Not really feeling it will happen ... But would be nice to see our team catch lightening next season somehow in the face of all the !!!! and turmoil of the past few seasons.

I agree. My only real concern with the staff at this point is Ryan Cubit as the OC. I think our offense will be better this next year with what we have coming back, but I wasn't very impressed with the play calling last year.
I think Bill is still calling the plays. I would like to see RC calling the plays to see if he's any differnt than BC. He'd also be able to put that on his resume after Illinois.
I Was saying the same thing...if cubut is smart he'd make hecklinski co-offensive coordinator or help little cubit in some capacity......
the play calling was not good at all....we fumbled a flea flicker before smh

I just read in the Sun-Sentinal that Miami is not going to keep their S&C coach Andreu Swasey either. He would be a huge upgrade from what we have now and was very well respected by their current and former players who often trained with him during the off season on their own. Cubit might want to look south again if possible.
I don't care what anyone thinks about this statement, but we need Lane Kiffin. He would be great for us, and honestly, we do not deserve better (in terms of an ethical coach). He would hold his own against guys like Harbaugh and Meyer. Get an AD that has the balls to go after him in a couple years. Enough of this wait around and see business.

Lane Kiffin doesn't need us. I doubt he is ready to jump from Alabama to UofI. Another good year at Alabama next year, and the big boys will come calling again for him.
If he jumps too soon to a job that might be tougher, a la Illinois, his coaching chops might be tarnished again.

And if the rumblings of Saban going back to the NFL are true, does Alabama consider Kiffin for the HC position? Don't think UI is in his future regardless.

Agreed. Saban already tried the NFL and went quickly back to the college game. He has built a dynasty at Alabama, something that seems impossible to do with today's rules in comparison to when Bryant ran the show. He is going to continue to build his legacy at Alabama.
Agreed, but I can see him leaving for the Bucs. Franchise QB, good surrounding pieces, rising defense, and Tampa is a lot like a college town size and media wise.
Will he leave? No, he's too much of a control freak to leave. Plus his wife loves tuscoolosa

Oh boy. Robert just eviscerated Cubit for taking his discretionary assistant coach funds and dumping nearly all of them into his son Ryan in reward for producing a 100th-something ranked offense. Meanwhile Mike Phair actually takes a pay cut.
I've never held as negative an opinion on Cubit as so many others on here, and this Ryan Cubit OC thing has been under my radar, I admit. But seeing Robert lay it bare like that ... yikes.
