Any idea on new additions?

McGee has pretty much been absent lately, not really a shocker. Onward and upward!

Who are we bringing in, any ideas?

The coaches meeting in January is where all the peer to peer networking is done. They always seem to hire someone they already know. The line to talk to Lovie should be long.

Ouch. Goes from having a heisman candidate to being fired from Illinois.

We see to have a track record of hiring Louisville Offensive coordinators and then firing them 2 years later.

Wasn't sure what to make of McGee. He like everyone inherited mid-level MAC talent. Retrospectively we clearly saw the lack of talent. So hard to judge when you don't have the players tp run your schemes. Some with more knowledge of Louisville had serious concerns.

So bottom line, trust Lovie's experience.

Surprised, but not disappointed, about McGee.

I wonder what the story is with Williams. Does Lovie have a much better DB coach in mind? If so, who?

What about the offensive coordinator from USF? I read that he followed Charlie Strong from UT to USF but not sure if $ will be enough to entice him to leave. Probably wouldn't be too much of an adjustment with system as USF is spread and likes mobile QBs

Edit: Just saw that Gilbert is making 100,000 at USF

The problem is, Ryan Cubit set the bar pretty high...

I don't unfortunately. Some names are being thrown around but nothing at all that's solid info.

Sumlin, Helfrich seem to be the fan favorites.

And uh....possibly Ron Turner.

Can someone explain what the deal was with Williams? I don't follow this all that closely, but kept seeing calls for him to be fired on twitter. Did the dude just suck at coaching? Bad recruiter? Both?

Wow. Any more support for this player mistreatment allegation?

Is McGee owed any more money? There’s already a few Illini coaches possibly AD’s still collecting paychecks.

Lovie Smith's past choices for OC have been abysmal. I would be shocked if he got it right this time. I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Mistreatment is a strong and dangerous word to throw out there. Difference between unliked/personality and mistreatment

It’s weird, but I feel much more confident with Lovie as the head coach after today’s events. Unwilling to accept terrible results, and willing to make a really tough personal decision for the betterment of the program.

Ditto.
