Interesting that the article was written by Nebraska's Rivals, who didn't start recruiting him until the day he committed to Illinois.

I know the way this business works, but that seems like a really low move. The kid commits to Illinois, and that day the assistant from Nebraska is sending him instagram or twitter DM's? Can't let the kid enjoy one day before you start telling him that you'll be following him more closely and want to meet?

I get that its all a competition, but in a sense it would make lots of sense to steal recruits from the other schools in one's division.
That said, I think Moran is committed solidly.

Also, I want to believe this is a sign that other schools in B10 W know that Illinois could, emphasis on could not is already, recruit at the top of the division, for various reasons not the least geography, since Lincoln is far from most talent hotbeds, and Illinois is not as far from the SE at least.

Future #Illini Kentrail Moran: "I'm 100% committed to Illinois". 4-star running back from O'Fallon (Ill.)

Kentrail should lead them on, indicate he's open to switching his commitment, do everything he can to keep Nebraska's recruiters occupied and then go ahead and sign with the Illini. :D

How big a deal is it to recruit Illinois high school talent? Does it really matter where we get talent, as long as it produces? What would be an acceptable level on in-state talent? Should we be signing 70% of the four and five-star guys from Illinois? Should 60 of our 85 scholarships be Illinois high school players? Does it really matter? It didn't seem to hurt Oregon that their best player was from Hawaii.
Age old debate, but getting kids from Illinois has some benefit, but the reality is, there is not much state loyalty(at least in the Chicago area) historically and even less today. Illinois has never/rarely gotten the top recruits or even the "fair share". Obviously if there was a winning program to attract them, it would help.

I know they are just words, but they couldn't have been said more clearly or at a better time. Props to him for clearing up the rumors. This made me happy. Go Illini!

That tweet makes me feel much much better, but as always, I will wait until their name is on the dotted line. :D

That's why I love recruits like Gabe Megginson who was recruited by all the big names and wanted to be an Illini from day one. I hope he has a fantastic career as an Illini. Go Gabe , go illini

Anyone have insight on this? Was he just not interested or coaches weren't?

its always tough getting players in to UI who don't take high school or college classes seriously.

those are players who will likely flunk out anyway.
See Zook, Ron -- recruits

Or get arrested a couple times.

Beckman's done a pretty good job of keeping the riff-raff with the 5-0 to a minimum.

Mizzou is talking to this kid. I talked to him last night about looking at Illinois and he said they aren't talking to me and Mizzou is the SEC. I asked him where did the National Champion came from. He had no response. I hope he doesn't go to Mizzou. This is an athletic kid who might be able to be turned into a OL or DL. He plays TE and WR now on offense and DE on defense. He was also 2nd team All-State this year as a Junior in basketball.

My guess is that Royce will only play football if he doesn't get the basketball offer that he wants. I have talked with people from Nashville and they said his first love is basketball.

Without a doubt it is, but his best opportunity is definitely in football.

Been dead here for a few days. Is there anything going on for spring evals or something like that? Any updated information on the defensive recruits we are after? Thanks and go :illinois:

Heard Beckman rubbed some coaches the wrong way at his coaches clinic. It was very disappointing for me to hear since I thought we were making some headway in the state.

I think if Jesus Christ was our HC, he would rub some local illinois coaches the wrong way. Some of these guys you just cant win with

I agree there. The stuff I heard was very minor...like I guess a certain part of the clinic they used to be allowed to bring coolers (of beer) this year they were not. Also I guess the assistant coaches didn't speech or weren't made readily available. There were some other issues but I don't recall them atm. Winning would cure all of these.

I heard from a coaching friend of mine it was a great time.

No beer? Probably an issue of liability above Beckman. If coaches are complaining about not being able to drink beer in front of young kids, then I don't think the problem lies with Beckman.

I doubt it was around kids. I think it was more some casual tradition from past years that wasn't allowed to be carried on. Probably more about the breaking tradition than the actual beer part. I think the bigger issues was the assistant coaches lack of speaking/availability compared to other years.
