Are you denying that there is a link between recent athletic success and increased applications (thereby leading to improved academic standing)? Because I'm here to tell you that there is a clear, irrefutable, cause-and-effect link. Including a study by devin pope of the aforementioned u of Chicago

There have been a handful of studies showing a connection with athletic success and undergraduate applications, but there also have been studies showing that this increased applications provide zero or minimal increase in the school enrolling "better" students. The students you attract as undergrad applicants because your athletic programs have improved are unlikely the type of students who will raise your school's academic profile.

Class is now #61 on Rivals. Fairly solid showing from Cubit, and not a class that will tank the program by any means. Grab Trevour Simms tomorrow and they'll finish right around Beckman's better classes.

Boise St is listed at both 55 & 56, so we are actually 60th. A very small, but favorable, distinction that we will happily take.

Only 4 P5 teams below Illinois in team ranks. Fairly solid showing?

Would have been nice to keep Walton, Black and Shelton and add the others. Not sure what that would have looked like with the # of rides available, but we could use the depth and you never know what's going to happen once a recruit is on campus.

Black was a hybrid and not a traditional DE. We dropped him. Only one of Dele Harding and Tim Walton was coming. We got the better of the two. Shelton came on strong and is biggest loss of those 3 but I still like Pulley, Jackson, and Myles Adams more than him.

It's a poor class in a vacuum, an absolute miracle under the circumstances.

Not handing our 2017 coach a roster that has been flushed down the toilet is an (still not guaranteed) outcome that I wouldn't have believed two months ago.

Am I looking at something else?

Power five teams ranked below Illinois: Arizona, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers, Colorado, Boston College, & Kansas

That's 9 teams.

Tadarryl

Tadarryl commited to Samford - wants to stay home and that's where his pops went. Also likely will get to be a QB there whereas all the power 5 offers were as an athlete.

we beat Austin Peay and Navy for Nation... seems like he had some bigger offers but those schools must have filled up or gotten higher players on their boards. Regardless, much needed depth at RB after we saw what happened last year.

What's in the water these days? This is a heck of a run, the past couple days. Welcome Tre!

With a bunch of people leaving, the higher possibility of playing time might be what's swaying these guys here...or maybe they're all just really optimistic that a better coach will be here after 2016. :D

Could not agree more. I'm itching to hit the RESET button as much as anyone (and I think we will), but give props where its due. This staff is working their tails off.

Shane Richards is suppose to announce at 1 pm via twitter. I'm assuming mountain time as it's already past 1pm here in Illinois.

Yes, the class ranking doesn't seem bad in context, but the number of commits is propping up really low player quality vs. previous classes. This year's class has an average rating of 2.35 vs. prior class averages:

2010: 2.62
2011: 2.85
2012: 2.74
2013: 2.72
2014: 2.71
2015: 2.75
2016: 2.35

Source is rivals. This might be the worst class ever in terms of per player rating.

Wow, great news! Watch this video he just runs over people.

That downfield block at 3:52 by the receiver was great. Even greater was how our new commit set it up and ran behind it. He looks to have a way to shed blockers. I thought there wasn't going to be any tackling at all except in the end zone till late in the flick. I likey! :thumb:

We might have ourselves another Ty Douthard! We really need a power back.

I'm liking this class. I'll take lower ranked guys from the South, Texas and Maryland where football rules supreme than higher ranked guys from Illinois where football is something we do until hoops starts.

Go Illini!

Agree completely, plus (as bad as it may sound), I think this class is a "throw it against a wall and see what sticks" type. Which I prefer over getting <20 kids and hoping the majority perform at what they are supposed to. Two stars (especially from the South/East regions) tend to show a lot more gut.
