Wow over a week and no news of any kind on recruiting front? Especially with the scandals, you would have thought some sort of recruiting news may have occurred. Granted I don't read the thread with the allegations, so maybe something was said over there, but still would have thought their would be something in here.

WE may have a committed on Wednesday tackle/guard Darta Lee is to announce 6:00 is time. We are one of five teams.

Broke down and took the time to watch Dara Lee's tape.
First off he is extremely nasty could help be a team leader on the field just by his play. He is vvg/ex drive blocker making it easily to the second level were he buries guys he does need to watch for flags. He pulls vv well with vvg feet although he could still use more work on feet and use of hands which are vvg for this stage for hs. VVg sp, st, qu, power, burst can play on the left or right side. Lone question is his length being listed as 6'3 290. Does he have the length to be a left tackle.
If think I would like to have this kid, damn right the nasty streak could be important for other o-lineman if not the entire offensive.
Grade out a 5.65 or 3 *.

And is there any reason why we haven't offered the tightend from SHG?

This offseason drought of news has me pretty bored on the recruiting side of things...and it has me thinking about something closer to home. I live in Naples, FL, located smack dab in the middle of some of the best football talent the country has to offer. I just recently graduated high school, and I have the privilege of being involved in the recruiting process for some of the kids I've played against/with, or who I am friends with.

Despite the very high amount of talent in the Southwest Florida area, I never have ONCE heard of Illinois being involved on a player down here. Which is remarkable, as last year there were several 4-star players in my county, and many 3-stars. This year, Naples High has some amazing talent, and my own high school Gulf Coast has a couple of kids worth watching too. Immokalee is a D1 factory, Golden Gate puts out a player every couple of years, yet I have never seen Illinois on the offer list despite their vast network in Florida. Seems odd to me, and it's disappointing to me in particular being an Illinois fan down in this hotbed of football talent. I wish Illinois would offer guys like this: http://247sports.com/Recruitment/Carlin-Fils-Aime-44987/RecruitInterests http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2641002/highlights/62970375/v2 from Naples, or even guys like this (as preferred walk ons) to develop the pipeline: http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/fl/naples/gulf-coast-high-school1/lauren-masterson http://recruiting.scout.com/player/8612744n-lukas-masterson?s=73

I'm just perplexed why I never see Illinois scouts down here, and why they seem to ignore the area. People are probably familiar with Carlos Hyde and Jeff Heurman from OSU? One came from Barron (rival to my high school) and the other Naples, both located in the Collier County School District. Hint to Illinois: Their HS teammates weren't scrubs either.

Staffs tend to recruit -- especially a long way from home -- in places where they have contacts. If you're a top 10 team you maybe can go get kids anywhere you want. But not us.

There is a whole lot of nothing happening on the recruiting front for the UI. I saw where even NW got orals from 2 OLs over the weekend. Out of state 3*s, according to the completely objective Trib.

It's hard to overestimate the damage this Simon crap is doing to us. Who's going to commit when you cannot be 100% sure who's going to be the coach?

I am about 95% sure beck will not lose his job over this as I think the accusations will fall apart, but till cleared of all wrong doing some may be using his against us

Yes, but there are ways to develop the pipelines, and this is one worth having. Like I even mentioned in my post, I guarantee Lukas Masterson (my friend) would commit if we offered him, and that is a guy that has an offer from UConn (per Scout). There are plenty of people like him in the area that are mostly under the radar, and could be the beginnings of something much bigger. I don't buy that excuse.

After the Moran/Peters/Jones trifecta, I thought we would see some more commits by now.

Anyone know why the Illini have not offered DE Romeo McKnight yet? Watched his hudl tape and he looks like he could be a major steal.

Watched his Hudl, and he certainly looks like a playmaker. But watching his tape he seemed slow, and his scout profile confirms that with a 5.13 40 time (around my 40 time hehe). He would definitely have to either trim that down a bit to play MLB, or gain 20+ pounds to be an effective DE in the Big Ten. Regardless, I like what he shows as far as instincts, and he has a nose for the football. I would like offering him as well.

Here is the scout profile: http://recruiting.scout.com/player/199496-romeo-mcknight

for a DE/DT, the 40 time is a relatively useless metric.

I'd want to see D-Linemen who are strong at the point of attack, can effectively use leverage to get off blocks and have the know how to recognize where the ball is going.

DT is just about out of the question for a kid who is 225 pounds. As a DE, he definitely still needs to gain a substantial amount of weight. I wasn't questioning his leverage, strength, or instincts, rather just his fit as a D1 defensive lineman given his size.
