GMAB! The source was staff. The media reported it. Staff is going to let each prospect break the news as they see fit. Rightfully so.

Come on man. The prospect calls the staff...tells them good news.....like it would be impossible to just ask the prospect "hey give us a heads up when you are going to make it public info"

So they could time it all up better then this nonsense??

It's just weird for coaches to blow up social media, the reporters are like hungry dogs and jump all over it.............and then........nothing happens for more then 24 hrs of it starting.........come on man. That's just sloppy

I don't think the coaches care much about if the fans know. You're being a little demanding here. They do that to create buzz amongst their targets. That's basically the entire reason these coaches have twitter is to build the brand. Media covers it because it gets them clicks. They also cover silence because it gets them clicks. The coaches are doing what they feel best. Calling them sloppy just because you don't get to be in the know is silly.

Hahahaha if coaches are trying to create a stir to be positive and things are falling in place........wouldn't you want something like a commit to follow that up as evidence ???

Again, the recruits will announce any news when they feel fit. Delshawn Phillips posted a video out of the blue in which he woke up his mom and told her then after Illini fans freaked because we heard good news and then silence. That was not even 3 days ago. You need to R E L A X. The coaches have received commitments, and they don't care if the fans receive it as well, as long as they get the papers on signing day.

Patience. Good things are coming. Early Enrollee high schoolers names can't be released by the school until the 2nd semester starts. They are signed and delivered and get to announce at their leisure

Thank god. Sorry guys for the negativity earlier but these reporters jump all over an assumption and gets everyone all excited and then we don't hear anything.

BigStan, I hope you have this saved on your word processor so you can copy and paste all through the recruiting cycle. :)

They likely got more than a verbal commitment. NCAA rules say you can't comment on an early enrollee until 2nd semester classes start...even after they send in their letters of intent.

The likely scenario is they landed their early enrollee targets and got faxed in those commitments, hence the excitement. No idea who our early enrollee targets are. I think people have talked about Carmoni Green and Owen Carney there so I'm guessing they signed and are waiting to make it public together, but that is a guess.

According to the link below, the signing period early enrollees is December 14th-January 15th (same as JUCO). December 14th just so happens to be the date when the first of those tweets were sent out, so yeah.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.se...s-in-2017-class/amp?client=ms-android-verizon

Edit: Kind of hoping now they never make it public and just show up to class the first day to the torture of us all.

The signing period is ONLY for JUCO early enrollees. That link just includes a poorly phrased paragraph which lumps in the High School players with JUCO players.

I'd imagine the high school players have to send something for admissions, but they wouldn't sign an NLI. At least with them we will not have to wait until February.

I remember before Arrelious Benn enrolled early that there was a joke article going around saying that Benn mistakenly committed to Illinois when his intent was to commit to Florida. Once the spring semester started and he showed up on campus we no longer had to worry about him changing his mind and going somewhere else.

I guess some fans should really just stop following recruiting now. It's only going to be like this for the next few years with some major talent and apparently some just can't handle it.

Cameron Thomas passed admissions. I don't know if that was ever in question, but I remembered some recruits being questionable.

Fair bit of Crystal Ball movement for Quran Hafiz to Nebraska the last day or two

With the release of the EOAA Report from the alleged sexual assaults on the weekend of his Minnesota visit, we may see several schools back off from Quran Hafiz.

Was he the recruit involved or just happened to be visiting at the time?

I guess I will admit I am on both sides of the fence. I am really disappointed we haven't heard any news after all the tweets. But I am willing to wait for good news. It just doesn't sound like Green or Thomas are the good news. They would be two of my top five I wanted. I think it may be the group of FLA players (Carney, etc)

We will see.

Another CB for Carney to us at 11:50

I think he is the most needed recruit of the remaining (known) targets.

Most needed: Carney
Biggest recruiting splash: Thomas
Importance of protecting home turf: Green

I definitely think this coaching staff has made great strides in recruiting. I'm excited to see when all is said and done how our class stacks up with the rest of the West. Go Illini!
