What are the Texas connections, exactly? Lovie and Hayes-Stoker are from there, but I don't see a lot of experience recruiting there.

Nickerson's connections among CA high school coaches are going to be a focus I'd imagine and McGee has gotten good players from Oklahoma to Arkansas, UAB, and Louisville, and I'd expect that to continue here.

But it looks to me like we're going to be hitting Florida real real hard, which is great.

Hayes Stoker I was referring to mainly

Recruited for TCU and also worked at Texas A&M.

Any good QBs in the state to keep an eye out on? Or any out of state that we may have a realistic shot on?

Just thinking ahead to when Wes isn't here anymore.

Fitzgerald and Peters have talent. I wouldn't bet on starting a true freshman in 2017 unless we hit some crazy home run on the recruiting trail.

Maybe there is a good JUCO transfer candidate out there. We snag our Russell Wilson / Aaron Rodgers.

Edit: to be clear, I realize NC State isn't a JUCO school.

Agree. I would love a class full of top 5-10 in-state kids, as well as 3* guys from TX, FL, and CA.

Give me a class were the large majority of recruits have multiple Power 5 offers and I will be very happy. It's been a while since we've sniffed this. A class ranked in the 30's would be around my expectations. If we beat that, which we seem to have the upside to do, I will be ecstatic.

Everyone should go look at who Lovie is following on twitter. I think it safe to say he is shooting for a somewhat higher caliber of player. Alabama, USC, Pitt, Michigan, Texas and Auburn commits who have followed him back.

First offer out to a Bishop O'Dowd player. Let's hope Nickerson can haul Alijah Vera-Tucker in!

That is a heck of a first offer. These guys aren't fooling around.

It's a nice offer, but offering him doesn't really signify anything. For reference, here are the kids Beckman offered in his first class here. It'll be more noteworthy when kids actually make it to campus.

That is true. I was just showing its coming from Nickerson's old school. You know he is respected there.

If you don't offer, there's no chance they'll come. I'm willing to bet this staff has a better chance of pulling in some of the top tier kids than Beckman's staff ever had.

That said, I'm expecting what most others seem to be expecting: maybe a few four stars, a bunch of very good three stars, and a few projects.

Which, based on history, would be a top 5 class in the Big Ten. I would be alright bringing that in every year.

Agreed. I'm looking for players who have P5 offers and they pick Illinois over a solid offer list. Whether it's a bunch of 3 stars or a mixture of 3s and 4s, I'll be focused on the offer list. Epstein is a perfect example. Offers from Michigan, Syracuse, West Virginia, and Cincinnati.

Was watching Derek Kyler from Dekalb regularly this fall and he is really impressive. The offers haven't rolled in yet but MSU, Purdue, and NIU are in on him.

Also visited Wisconsin last fall.

Kyler has a great arm and is mobile. Only knock would be he needs to get stronger/bigger.
