Like everyone else, I want Awodiran to be playing in the Orange & Blue, but from an academics standpoint, all 4 schools are great, obviously. From a football stand point, if he wants to play major college football, Yale might be out since the school is not even in the FBS.

If he's looking for the best combination of football and academics then it really is a no brainer with UofI Engineering and B1G football. There is no way you give the edge to Duke on this. Engineering is king at the Uof I and B1G football is second only to SEC in football. This could actually swing over the time he would be at the Uof I ... B1G football is getting better with great coaches, big TV money and exposure. Just my thoughts...

Pac12 is better than the B1G at football, and it's not close IMO.

Duke and Cutcliffe have recent success at a non-football school. Yes, Illinois has Lovie and Nickerson as coaches now, but Illinois does not have recent success. And the engineering program at Duke is nothing to laugh about. Duke is his current leader IMO.

He could definitely go to Duke and there is nothing wrong with that. However, Duke does not play in the Pac12 and besides Florida State, I would say Big10 is a better football conference right now than the ACC. Clemson last year was dominant, but traditionally, I would take Ohio State, Michigan, and now Michigan State in there. Add to the fact if Penn State, Wisconsin, and Nebraska make strides. Also, add in occasional Iowa in there.

Duke had some recent success, but seem to be teetering now.

To me there are plusses to both sides. If he wants to be nearby and for me a better conference with a great major at UofI, Illinois has a better draw.

If he wants to play for a great school outside of Illinois, Duke is solid. I personally would find playing for Lovie as a defender and Hardy Nickerson as a bigger draw even though we are not established right now if my goal is make it to the league while still getting a degree. By time he steps on campus, he will be a part of the class that helped ignite Illinois. At Duke, he is just a good student-athlete for a solid, but probably not great team. Illinois might not become great, but the chances are they will be better than Duke in a few years (during his upperclassmen years).

Sure about that, here is summary of ESPN 2016 power rankings, if you look 1st to 1st,...comparison the only position the B1G is higher ranked would be Iowa at 7th best in each conference.

Interesting --- in addition to Athlon, the ESPN power rankings now provide another 4-8 prediction for Illinois. Western Michigan (9-3) and UNC (8-4) are likely losses I would presume.

Wonder why I'm more optimistic than that?

I think still riding the positive vibes of Lovie hiring. Fact is there is still a major talent deficiency on the roster and with 9 B1G games the schedule is harder.

Think of it this way - if you had to rank the position groups on this team among the B1G - I don't know that Illini would place in top half for any position group outside of DL and QB (highly dependent on a fragile Lunt).

Oladipo, Aworidan, Treadwell needs to all stay. Some of these FLA and TX would be great too.

Does football get any positive momentum with a 5* basketball recruiting pulling the trigger on the Illini?

Over / under 2 years until Love lands his first 5*?

I'll take the under on that. I don't think there is really any carryover between the two sports. If that were the case, you'd think programs like Kansas, UNC, and Duke would have better football histories.

For those of us playing along at home that is Owen Carney and Carmoni Green from Miami Central. Both are 3 star 2017 recruits. Carmoni has a composite rank of #340 and Owen #470.

Respectable but not spectacular offer list for both players.

Both of those players would be ranked damn near the top of our class in terms of rating and ranking. Both would be huge pickups, and I hope Lovie and the crew can make it happen. Obviously they aren't world beater recruits, but for Illinois football right now those are very good gets. Also not really sure what you are talking about with the offer lists... Carney's is particularly great.

You are right - there's a lot of big names in there: LSU, Tennessee, Louisville, Georgia, Cal, Arkansas, Utah, Miss State, Miami.

Agree that these both would be very nice additions.
