Josua Maize (Deerfield) put out a top-6 a night or two ago that didn't include Illinois (but included a shout-out hoping they would offer him). Watching his video, I think he is worthwhile the offer. Not the most athletic end, but his tape shows his ability to shed blockers and get "skinny" to penetrate gaps.

If he is skilled but not offered this might be the cut off line. Lovie is definitely prioritizing speed. Which is nice cause I'm tired of our guys looking like they're running with cinder blocks on their feet.

How solid is his verbal?

I believe it is pretty solid. He flirted with Michigan, but appears to have reaffirmed his commitment. Tweets a lot of the new commitments and sounds genuinely excited to be an Illini. Alumni of his school have had success at Illinois.

Are we on any stud LB 4-5 stars who may want to be coached by Hardy Nickerson? Illinois has a tradition of LB and would like to see 3 starting LB that follow the mold of Simeon Rice, Hardy, and Holocek.

Yeah, pretty sure he looked around a bit but is solidly back in the fold now.

Texas safety Josh Newmans HS team is playing right now on ESPN. He has been mentioned a few times making tackles and announcer said he holds an ILL offer. Kid looks pretty solid.

Is it just me or is the Cedar Hill coach completely insane? There should really not be a place for that in high school sports.

Olalere Oladipo sets the defensive tone in Huntley's shutout of Jacobs

http://www.chicagotribune.com/subur...ll-jacobs-huntley-st-0828-20160827-story.html

One night after committing to Illinois, Oladipo sacked Bowling Green recruit Chris Katrenick on consecutive first-quarter plays to spark Huntley's defense to a night of dominance at home in a 35-0 Fox Valley victory.
"Defense wins championships and we wanted to send a message out to the state that we're the best team out here," Oladipo said. "The key point of emphasis was getting hits on the quarterback and we did just that."

Digging through some of the stats (I could find) for '16 recruits:

Larry Boyd - team has accumulated over 500 rushing yards in just two games
Tony Adams - has 6 catches for 77 yards and 3 TD's through two games (96 total yards), plus a pick on defense
Marc Mondesir - Lost today 47-44, but haven't seen the stats posted yet
Cameron Thomas - 83 passing yards (only attempted 5 passes) and 61 rushing yards (3 total TD's) in one game
Ricky Smalling - First game is tonight at Soldier Field
Kendall Smith - Scored the only TD in his team's loss to Glenbard West (defending state champ)

Somewhat off-topic, but former 2013 Illinois RB commit Michael Hermosillo is having a nice year for the Angels:

He's not listed as one of the Angels Top 30 prospects, so he's someone to keep an eye on as a Bo Flowers type of pick up if his baseball career stalls out. He's at High A and hitting in the .320s, though, so I'm sure he's not done with baseball.

Didn't Flowers have an altercation with a teammate which resulted in him getting the worse of it?

Skip to 48:34 to see Epstein's 71 yard run. Looks to have that SEC "speed". ;)
