Alec Pierce, 6' 4", 185, Glenbard West WR, named 1st team 8A All State http://www.ihsfca.com/class 8A all state.htm. He's a junior. Fast as heck and extremely athletic. Great hands. Gamechanger. Really hope we get him.

I don't know how the coaches don't vote in Smalling. He looked like the single best player in state and had the stats to back it. Perhaps they don't like his school or coach for some reason.

Looks like Ryan Easterling agrees:

The fact that Ricky Smalling isn't on this list is just pathetic https://t.co/dZDJkbu2Op

I think the WR from ESL is the best prospect, but, yeah, Smalling's omission is a complete joke. Unless those teams are just picked from playoff teams? And Brother Rice didn't make the playoffs. But that doesn't make sense, because BR was having a good season.

Anywho, my point is Pierce is majorly legit. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he winds up as a 4 star.

Brother Rice most definitely made the playoffs (8-1). Only regular season loss was to Loyola Academy (48-37). They then lost to Fremd in the first round of the playoffs (45-42).

OK. The only other thing I can come up with (beyond incompetence) is that these lists highlight kids who shined during the playoffs.

Smalling's 1st team all-state on virtually every other list, so not sweating this slight.

I looked on that website at the 7A all state and honorable mention and there is not a single East St. Louis player on either list.. Those list are a joke if Jeff Thomas isn't on it.. Or any ESTL player for that matter

#Illini coach Lovie Smith and Luke Butkus were in to Chicago Solorio this morning to see 2018 quarterback Quincy Patterson

They dominated my Hilltoppers last weekend. No punts. Never seen it. Shocked they lost to Maine South. Anyway, yeah, they're very big. But I don't think any of them are P5 prospects, outside of their Duke-bound TE, of course.
Jack Badovinac should be recruited by the ILLINI. 10 pancakes against the Hilltoppers. Tough, Strong and can be utilized as a pulling guard and can also play center. Sun times first team all state.

Besides Butkus, that's also Tim McGarigle in the picture. Gotta imagine both are staying if they're on the recruiting trail with Lovie

Good info, thanks. To say I was impressed with LA's o-line would be a major understatement. How'd they lose?

Did some quick research on Badovinac. That he's 6' 2" is probably what's holding up bigger offers.

Do we have interest in 2017 ATH Jordan Rowell? Great measurables at 6' 3", 195 lbs. Obviously, big question about competition, but still. Currently an NIU commit, but he's looking.

Is there partial qualifying for football like there is for basketball? A required academic redshirt type deal?

There are no partial qualfiers for either sport anymore. You either qualify or you don't.

The last time there were partial qualifiers was about 10-15 years ago. The last partial qualfiers at Illinois were Frank Williams and Cory Bradford.

Some schools still let in nonqualifiers like St. John's did with Marcus Lovett. But Lovett had zero chance of getting into Illinois.

Marcus Lovett says hello.

Don't know what the current rules are, but Lovett got into SJU, did not pass the Clearinghouse, remained on scholly (and in school), but couldn't play his first year. Kind of a forced RS deal.

Replied to your post before you added the Lovett stuff.

Re: the admissions requirements at Illinois, this is from Larry Boyd's twitter this evening:

It's not often a recruit will make something like that public. But sounds like good news for a key guy for us :thumb:

Also, am I the only person on earth who keeps his phone charged? I feel like the median battery level in twitter screenshots is like 8%

I must be the only one who crops their screenshots too so all of that stuff doesn't show up. Lol

As a high school teacher I will tell you that you have no idea how much these kids use their phones. I've been doing this for years and I'm still shocked at how much they got going on at once on their phone. But the bigger difference is they don't necessarily have a place to charge them during the day depending on their teacher/schedule.

That said, Larry Boyd is some kind of confident. I like his style on that post.

Good for him! And yes, I agree about the phone charge thing. After a full day, my phone is sitting at a solid 76% charged.

Although, I am able to bring it down if I get bored at work or if Tilmon is having a ceremony to sign his LOI.
