Serious question.

If the feeling is that Jeff Thomas is going to JUCO, why is the staff going after him?

I know that he has unbelievable talent. But if he ends up at a JUCO, couldn't he sign with a different D-1 school, once he is done with JUCO?

This isn't that tough to understand. Signing a 5 star kid from St Louis who was assumed to be leaning to Missouri is a big PR win that the program needs. And while any LOI becomes void if he goes to a JC, we still have an edge and can work to keep him in the fold. Adding a couple of his teammates would help with that, too.

Also we have a bunch of open scholarships, so it's not a huge gamble to allocate 1 to him here.

Are the coaches allowed contact with players at a JUCO? What are the rules for communication if the player had signed a LOI which later becomes void?

East st Louis is also in Illinois....its in the metropolitan east....there's always the misconception iits st Louis...its not
on the other hand they prob believe they can get Thomas in on his act but not on his required core

Not 1000% sure, but I believe once they enroll in a Juco you snap your fingers and for NCAA purposes it's as if they're an unsigned junior in high school again.

We don't want him to go to juco and have an interest elsewhere....we've had 3-4 guys do that already.... We gotta see what has to go down to get him through clearinghouse....that's why I believe they are taking the risk

Someone catch me up.... why would Thomas go to juco?

Edit: nvm I think Second And Chalmers answered my question.

Crickets.

The guy who gave Carmoni Green a crystal ball to UNC last weekend, interviewed Green today after visit...did not re-do his crystal ball (in our favor). That is not a good sign in my book. We will see.

Weather may be playing a part in any news.

So uh... ya... pretty much as active on here as I would think for a "big" Illinois football recruiting weekend... :tsk:

It means there are still recruits on campus. Media can't speak with them until they have left.

They haven't even had time to get home and discuss with their family. Gotta give it a little more time

No they are not. They are gone. Awards banquet tonight. Doesn't appear any commitments coming tonight.

Howard Watkins - commitment coming soon, we look very strong here

Three ESL kids - academic concerns here, but we appear to be leading for all three.

Kendrick Green - offering late has put us behind but we've made that up. If we offered in the summer, he wouldn't be available. It's even b/t us, Minny, Iowa. Probably committing soon.

Daniel Callender - we sit pretty good here as well

Joshua Fedd-Jackson - NC State, BC, and us. Probably even, hope we did enough this weekend to sway but I'm pretty sure he is going to take at least a couple more official visits.

Based on twitter activity, I would venture to guess that we land K. Green.

Apologies to all those waiting with bated breath for news about this past weekend's visits.

More insight on 2018 WR Alec Pierce (Glenbard West). 37" vertical. Working on getting his 40 time. Very smart kid (brother is Ivy Leaguer and had a 31 ACT). The real kicker is he plans on being an engineer (not the choo choo variety). old info: 6' 4" 205 lbs., great hands. Yeah, he's the punt returner. Jump reach is 11' 6".

This kid is not your garden variety HS athlete. Quite the opposite, actually. In middle school, he made an international (North American and Caribbean, including Jamaica) track and field meet in the 100 yard dash. Finished 4th.

Lovie needs to get after this kid.

Trying to figure out how to put a jpeg on here. Argh!
