I doubt Lovie can flip Epenesa, he seems pretty set on Iowa and has lots of other great options if not.

I think it's more about making the statement that he's going to go hard after the best players in the state that we didn't have a chance at before.

and I'm fine with that. NSD isn't for another 11 months, the kid has plenty of time to check out his options if he chooses.

No way he flips to Illinois. We have plenty of time before he signs, but I highly doubt he flips to Illinois

Apparently A.J. Epenesa is about to de-commit from Iowa to come to Illinois? Per a tweet from @AB1132.

Come on, man. Nothing of the sort was said.

OTOH, take a look at some of the absolute studs following Coach Smith on twitter already:

Cam Spence, 2017 4 star DT from IMG Academy in Brandenton, FL. #250 on the Scout 300. http://www.scout.com/player/190160-cam-spence

Hezekiah Jones, 2017 4 star WR from Texas, #96 on the Scout 300.

Bunch of others as well, but those two stuck out to me. Lovie has changed the game on possible recruits we have a shot with.

Lovie already has 14K followers on Twitter. What's most interesting is that he already has a bunch of Illinois high school football coaches following him.

I'm about 80% confident we will land the top recruiting class in the West within three years. I'm 95% confident we'll at least get to the #2 class. This year Nebraska had the highest ranking class at #25 followed by Wisconsin at #36, Iowa at #42, and NW at #47. It seems completely reasonable to assume that Lovie can put together the most talented roster in the West given some time.

4 star guy on Rivals. 85th play ranked nationally

No, he's 85th WR ranked nationally, and 3 stars.

I personally wasn't that excited about his tape, I think we have that skillset covered already with guys on campus and can get better versions of it in Florida or Texas. He's not bad, just wouldn't be my first priority.

I think in all ways, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Iowa are the programs we should now be aiming to beat. On the recruiting trail, on the field, in fan interest, in revenue, everything. Northwestern is their own thing, and even in our suckitude we've largely had the better of Purdue and Minny over the past couple decades. Now those three schools are in the way of where we want to be.

It won't take 3 years. I would guess that we will have best class in West this year.

Absolutely! Thank you Jim Delaney for creating the East / West divisions. Without that I wouldn't have much hope.

All the talking heads were wondering whether Lovie could beat Harbaugh and Meyer for recruits when he doesn't have to. He just has to beat Riley, Ferentz, Chryst, and Pat Fitzgerald. Good coaches all, but probably the easiest recruiting opponents in the Power 5.
