Working on month end so haven't had the chance to check, are we privy to who will be in campus this weekend or has that not been released?

Agreed. Does anyone know who is on campus today / this weekend? I saw some inklings that there is a big event but haven't heard much else about what is actually going on.

Lots of guys; I've seen tweets from Carmoni Green, Owen Carney, Oladipo, Mike Epstein, and Micah Jones (2018 class).

We'll be fine....no time to hit the panic button...we are in some of these top athletes top 5 without a played season under movie that's the most impressive I've seen at Illinois in a while since the zooker

Agreed. I haven't seen prospects release a top 5 or 7 that have Illinois in the mix as much as we have had in the short amount of time under Lovie. It's a positive sign. Just need to have some kids to pull the trigger. A long while before NSD so we should be alright.

Exactly! Being in the conversation is just the first step towards recruiting success. No one just walks into a football program and gets recruits to start signing right away. The next step, as you noted, is to have some kids pull the trigger. Once we get one big time recruit, I think they will start to roll in.

He's got quite a bit of Ferg in him. I like it! Needs to add at least 10-15 pounds without losing much quickness, but I am a big fan as well. I'm hoping he's one of the commits that we get in the next few weeks (also obviously hoping we get a few commitments in the next few weeks).

I agree. Pretty decent competition level too. 5A ball in the Beaumont area is no joke. TONS of athletes out there.

I'm facsinated to see how this plays out. Not even the most extreme pessimist among us can argue that Lovie/Nickerson (D) and McGee (O) aren't massive upgrades over the personnel that was in those positions circa 2014/2015. Whether that translates into competitiveness on the field has yet to be determined but B1G recruits have to be paying attention this fall, right?

Turner had at least a 3 month head start on recruiting over Smith ... Plus, there are at least FIVE more months before signing day. So there's that.

A ton can happen in 5 months. Just stop with all the stupid Chicken Little drama.

Turner might have had a head start, but it was also rare to have such large numbers already committed at the time. July, then October were the prime season for early commits. And Turner still had more recruits.

I agree a lot can happen in 5 months, but to say it is Chicken Little drama is perhaps off the mark. Illinois has 28 potential spots to fill for the coming year. Once the season starts, the recruiting train slows considerable. The BBQ needs to pull a couple of kids.

The BBQ leading to a commit or two would be nice. However, I'm wondering if the staff is thinking of a significant number of JC recruits? This doesn't get mentioned much, and I certainly don't know, but Mike White did a good job with junior college players.

20 HS recruits, 8 JC recruits? Don't know if it is even possible.

May need to go the JC route for this year on some scholarships to have ready and able players for depth next year and to balance out the classes

#919
If they're taking 4-5 D linemen I think they have to look at 2 JC guys or 5th year transfers strictly for depth and experience. We haven't had a lot of success that route but maybe the staff can find some difference makers.

I believe it was Doug at rivals said they will no longer look at the jc ranks as a fix all. Rather more surgically a kid that they would consider probable starters so maybe a couple.

Tales of the tape.

Someone more in the Ferguson vain then Leshoure's.
Vg first step, burst and open field runner. A north south runner with vg feet. The term slippery when wet came to watching as not so much a tackle breaker but more slight adjustment then slides right of or out a tackle. He does have the makings of running with decent every down back power capable of breaking arm tackles on the back seven defenders already if he can maintain sp, qu, and burst if he can while playing at about 205 or 20 more pounds. Sharp cuts including an occasional jump cut. Know where near the quick twitch as Ferguson. Speed to turner the corner and enough quickness and strength to take it up the middle.
I doubt he is 5'10 seems on the shorter side. Not really a home run hitting game changer but 30 -40 yards do able as he does not show the increase of speed to maintain the advantage on a long runs tends to get run down. So vg burst, qu,and short area sp/ sbg-vg long sp, st, and power.
Rating mid 3* 6.5
