Didn't know where to put this since it is not illini related but a little birdie told me over the weekend that the NCAA is getting ready to drop the hammer on Alabama

Regarding football? Or something else?

I said cash cow IN FOOTBALL

Yes, and I corrected you in noting that the NCAA does not make much, if any money via football. They do however own the broadcast rights to the NCAA basketball tournament, which is worth billions.

So there's no financial motivation for the NCAA to protect a football program.

Not to beat the drum on another KU graduate QB transfer, but Montell Cozart announced he is transferring. Has played plenty of snaps at KU the past four years. Not the greatest, but I think he rises the floor by providing a more credible backup QB (or could even beat out Crouch), and allows Lawson to redshirt if he makes it onto campus.

Personally, I think it's important for Illinois to win some games next year. Nothing amazing, but going 1-11 or 2-10 will do serious damage to Lovie's current recruiting wave. Bringing in a competent QB transfer makes that more realistic.

I find it interesting that he has a year of eligibility left. He's played from 2013-2016 and was injured after playing four games in in 2015. Apparently he qualified for a medical waiver in 2015 to get the extra year of eligibility:

He's nothing special but I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's a better fit for the offense than JGJ and has way more playing experience than Crouch. The staff loves Crouch so I doubt he'd start over Chayce if Crouch is healthy. However, he'd be a nice safety net in case Crouch gets hurt.

Cass Tech DE Andre Carter and IMG LB/S Aaron Antoniou are both very high on Illinois and claim they will commit if they are offered. While the '18 class currently has zero commits it is cool to see genuine interest in the program from kids across the country. With only 20ish scholarships available the staff is being very diligent with their offers & aiming high. This class has a lot of potential based solely on local talent. Of course, the addition of a defensive coordinator from a top high school football program in the country doesn't hurt

If it occurs, the velvet hammer will resemble the one used on the Tarheels hoops program.

An in state, somewhat Illini target getting some SEC love. It is a good sign for us that we are being selective on kids that are getting looked at by big time programs around the country. LOVIE that!

Yea, it'll be interesting to see how this class plays out. The staff is going to be selective with spots and who they go after (wait-and-see types). We'll see if some recruits value that or if they'll prefer the schools that offered them first.

It worked in our favor for Kendrick Green...:thumb:

As long as you go hard after them once you offer, it's fine. You can't go from zero to commit in a short time though, you have to maintain a relationship even before you offer. We seem to be doing a decent job of that, though.

#illini priority, Chicago @SolorioFootball QB Quincy Patterson (@quincy_qb1) closing in on decision after ACC tour
https://t.co/DVVM0b7BMo

He is at best my #4 choice for this class at QB. I like Eleby, Taylor and Littlejohn all more than him. But it appears the coaches have a different opinion of his talent than I. I will defer to calibear on this one

With absolutely zero inside information of any kind. Anyone else think that Quincy Patterson's decision will jumpstart our class? If he comes here, we have our qb and first Illinois state recruit. If he doesn't choose us, I think Coran Taylor may pull the trigger shortly after to give us our qb and state recruit.

Regardless to who will be the best QB (Patterson, Taylor, Eleby, Littlejohn, others), Patterson would probably be the biggest win from the recruiting scene because of the amount of other offers he has, his ranking (could make one of the ranking services top 300), and his location.
