According to 247 link,

1/6/17 Commit to USC
2/24/17 De-commit from USC
4/15/17 Commit to Nebby
8/17/17 De-commit from Nebby
8/17/17 Commit to L'ville

Interesting....

USC -> Nebraska -> Louisville -> Illinois

Anyone notice a pattern there?

Yeah, really tough to compete with ASU now that they've matched what is perhaps the Illini's top selling point: a heavily African-American staff with loads of NFL experience.

ASU stomps all over us on location, weather, facilities, easier academics, recent recruiting, record over the past 20 years and . . . girls.

Absolutely wrong on last one. You realize. The Midwest farmers' daughters really make you feel all right?

So he commits to Illinois next and then 1-4 months later decommits. Got it.

Looks like he needs to de-commit from Louisville first. ;)
After that, he can do the commit/de-commit from us. :)

Sloppy 5ths anyone?

It sounds like it's going to be very difficult to convince Robertson to be an Illini. He'll take his visit this weekend, but aside from a miraculous intervention, this one is not happening.

I believe that. But lovie has convinced a lot of others that no one thought was possible. So I’ll keep holding my breath.

Ill be committing at the Polynesian bowl game jan 20th #Illinois or #GoCards

This has the feel of someone trying to get more suspense into their decision just so they can have SOME suspense. I mean, has he visited? Will he visit before the Polynesian bowl game? We came out of left field here so I don’t think it’s us.

Anybody more in the know happen to hear anything that shows we have a more substantial chance?

I’d love to have this guy so I hope there is more to it than what I’m assuming.

generally speaking, hosting recruits on a winter weekend when no students are really there is not in our favor.

I know its MLK weekend, and high schools are off Monday, but it is not in our general interest to make it a huge recruiting visit weekend IF we can get the lads there the following weekend or on the 27th/28th.

Its also in our interest to make our big push for these guys, if any are offensive skilled players, AFTER we name our new OC, which we would think would be in the next 7-10 days

Did we already miss on Merlin Robertson? 247 had him visiting both us and Arizona State this weekend. That seems wrong.

NM. Werner confirmed it on twitter. He's no longer visiting.

Did he confirm that he is not visiting at all or just this weekend?

"4-Star California LB Merlin Robertson was scheduled to visit #illini this weekend. No longer. Arizona State making huge push."

That's all I got.

Hardy Nickerson was lead recruiter for Robertson...but along with Joe Fotu. And although Nickerson being let go could be a disadvantage, Robertson, from what I've read, heavily identifies with being Tongan. So Fotu could be a strong influence, and Fotu is so strongly Illini that he has three teepees as part of his Polynesian tattoos on his arm.So the question is, can Fotu bend Robertson's ear enough to become Illini as well.

You have seen the clip of Fotu doing his Haka to the War Chant, haven't you. Let's hear it for the Polynesian Pipeline. https://youtu.be/hCEowTDkiRU

Nickerson wasn't let go, that I know of, he was on leave because his mother passed away. But as far as I know he is back.

That is a very good point. Lets just hope that Adele did not start a trend of "commit to another school, then 3 months later have a commitment announcement with IL supposedly in the running, and recommit to original school"...Would totally be on the ace end of that one

D'oh. I knew better than that. Total brain fart.

Still, the Fotu/Robertson relationship remains. I'm sure Joe really wants Merlin to be in O&B.
