Why is the roof being on fire a good thing? Or how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop? It's just another one of life's great mysteries. Best to not question it, and rather warm yourself by the hot columns!

I guess we'll have to wait and see if it is Julian. If it is he's an interesting prospect at a number of positions. He's listed as a TE/DE on his HUDL profile. Elsewhere I've seen him listed at 6'7 245 lbs. If he's being recruited as an OL he's obviously a project and it will take a while for him to get up to 300 pounds. Very different from the OL we've seen this staff go after.

We don't have the resources, man power or name recognition to grab players from any state that we want. Locking down the state creates access to a well of talent that can help us now and in the future. It's obviously not happening this year. Instead Northwestern, Wisconsin and Minnesota are picking this state clean.

I hope the St.Louis and Central Florida kids head this way otherwise this is going to be a very weak class.

Maybe you missed the part about how much money we started pouring into our staff.

You're obviously not getting why I feel it's important to lock down the state.

In the end it doesn't matter because the staff is going to do what they want to do and Lovie has already stated the areas he and the staff will target as far as recruiting goes, so we will just have to agree to disagree on this topic :thumb:

No, I do get it. But don't have a meltdown at this stage. It gets annoying. If he is not making headway with ANY recruiting 1-2 years from now then you start to get worried. But yes, agree to disagree ;)

I like the pick up of Julian Pearl although I never heard of him before yesterday.

Plays in the same conference as Coran.

Love the upside based purely on the frame and athleticism. Definitely a kid we won't see for at least 2 years, unless they move him to DE or TE.

I'm not sure how long it will take for him to get up to 315 lbs. He's 14 months away from getting on campus and is obviously still growing but it might be 2020 before he cracks the depth chart. It'll be interesting to see if he plays basketball this year.

Sounds like a good kid and Scout has him rated higher than Woodard. It's also nice to see us do some East Coast recruiting :p

Welcome to the family Julian!

Pearl would have had excellent coaching under BJ Luke at DHS. Technique will not be an issue. Just needs some strength and bulk.

I wrote about this on Rivals. But this kid just smacks of desperation by the staff, to me. I could only watch about half his tape at d-end. Bad , bad move I saw nothing that suggest this guy worthy of a schollie.
Lacked effort about half the time about of half of the other he was just cleaning up what was b 4 him.As I mentioned after taking nothing 300 plus guys with a mean streak in them. Then that!
As I mentioned if he stays I hopes he makes me look 2 stupid. I would not have taken Pearl at all much less now. And after all the talk about limiting offers to go after the cream of the crop and 10 months away.

I think you are right, it does. When you keep getting sunshine piped up your skirt and all you get is a cold breeze you might be less enthused. If they took Pearl in December I might not be wild about him but, one by then were prepared for lower expectations, secondly he might have displayed improvement on his tape. So you well might be right, doesn't change my preception of his abilities.

I have seen this kids play a bit and I will tell you right now he is well worth the offer. His biggest draw back is h3e needs to get stronger. No he will not come in here and play his first year, odds are he is 2-3 years away from playing. Once he gets here and get to eat and eat right and lift you will see a major change in the young man. He has good skills for a OT

I know his brother was 6'7" and pushing 400. At that time Iowa wanted to get in on him but he just couldn't move the way they wanted him to only because of his weight. He was good for short periods on time but just couldn't lose the weight the way he needed to. If this kid gets bigger (close to 300) and has any of his brother in him then he will be fine. I don't think this is a kid the staff is looking to have ready to in 2 or 3 years.
