From what I've gathered, these are the top names that Illinois is battling for to finish the class (might be missing a few)

In order of ranked on 247:

Verdis Brown (OL or DL)
Dallas Craddieth (S)
Reuben Unije (OT)
Dayven Coleman (S or LB)
Cadarius Gaskin (WR)
Drake Anderson (RB)
Fa'Najae Gotay (LB)
Zach Peterson (DE)

Anyone care to share what level of confidence we have in landing some of these guys?

Hey he has a Mississippi State offer so that is a plus! Two way player, decent WR as well

Don't usually quote my own posts, but that's three commitments in three days...let's keep this ball rollin'.

:illinois:

Good call!

Interesting that he committed before his official visit.

Werner saying he's a soft commit for what it's worth

Why would they need to say that it's a "soft commit". I mean, I get what DrCS01 posted, but do they think he isn't going to like the campus/facilities or staff? Or is this leading up to another "My offer was pulled" sideshow?

Disregard, just read the article under the Aaron Jordan one. Apparently it's common protocol. So nothing to see here...

I don't think that's what's going on here. They want him to at least see the campus, meet Coach Smith, interact with the players, etc. He's only met Coach Williams and that was during an in home visit earlier this week. Based on the article, it doesn't sound like he's ever been to the state of Illinois, let alone visited the campus.

This has been the standard approach as far as recruiting goes with this staff.

It should just be a formality as he plans on signing on the 20th. They wouldn't have him on campus for an official visit if they didn't want him.

Yeah, I jumped the gun a bit. I hadn't realized that this was standard for this staff, but it definitely makes sense especially if he has never been to campus let alone the state.

It probably happens more often than we think,(Julian Wright comes to mind) but how can someone advising this or any kid allow them to commit with neither seeing campus nor meeting the head coach first?

Kudos to staff on having hm visit before accepting commit.

Not a perfect metric, but a commitment from Brown and Unije would move Illinois team recruiting rankings from 61 to 46 (and would move Illinois past Northwestern and Purdue, and put them in a dead heat with Iowa).

Looks like momentum is swinging against the Hoosiers. A lot of crystal balls going from Indiana to USC for Markese Stepp (one of the best RB's in the Midwest).

Any B1G West (or lower tier) teams that lose recruiting battles for highly regarded recruits is only a good thing for Illinois.

That recruitment has been wild since he decommitted from Notre Dame. I was getting worried when there were a lot of CBs going Purdue's way for him.

It would be better if he landed somewhere out of conference, obviously.

This was retweeted by Reuben Unije.

Nice. Plus another crystal ball went to Illinois for Dayven Coleman.

So is this late push comparable to last year? Obviously it isn't over yet, but I know a lot of people felt that we needed to close like last year in order to keep up the appearance in regards to recruiting.
