Can we all agree that with every conference, Lovie gets better and better and communicating and we continue to get happier and happier it's not Beckman talking?

One way to look at the relative quality of this class is simply to compare the number of Top 1000 recruits with our "recruiting peers." We're near the bottom.
Top 1000 recruits:
Wisconsin 17
Iowa 15
Minnesota 15
Nebraska 11
Minnesota 9
Indiana 9
Northwestern 8
Illinois 8
Rutgers 7
Purdue 6
I know some people will say "yeah but this staff SCOUTS." Yeah, they do. But even with great scouting we're still operating at a talent deficit against the top of the division.
What concerns me most, however, is that I think we might also have a coaching deficit. We certainly haven't out-coached anybody yet.
I've been waiting until we have this class to assess the future. This is what I see considering the schedule for each year:
- 2018: No bowl. Over/under is 4 wins. QB and scoring points will still be a huge issue, but D will be improved so games will be closer.
- 2019: Squeak into a bowl. 7 wins at most; 6 more likely.
- 2020: 7-8 wins. Decent bowl.
The caveat here is that recruiting could fall apart next year if the games aren't closer and we're still making stupid mistakes. If that happens then all bets are off for 2019-20.
If you're assuming something better you might want to take a closer look at the talent being assembled in the West and our future schedules.
Edit: I should also add that I would consider this a successful rebuild - slower than I'd like, but successful. Forgive me for my low expectations.
I wonder what Smith said to Brown's mother? I've heard Lovie usually wins over the parents. We really dodged a bullet here.

Cumberland and Hooman was a pretty good duo. Both NFL guys.Pearl would be an awesome 6’7 255 TE. Big enough to be a vital asset in the run game and he’s athletic enough to route run.
TE Group with desired weights
Pearl 6’7 255
Dorsey 6’6 240
Baker 6’4 245
That would arguably the best TE depth that we have had in......ever?
Dorsey is more athletic than Hooman and Cumberland, has great height, and has by far the best hands of the three. But his biggest advantage?
This offense and these quarterbacks actually look to get him the ball. The other two were tragically underused in their days at

I think you forget how athletic Cumberland was. 6'4 260 and ran a 4.45 40. He was a freak. Had a habit of making some dumb plays but was definitely under used.
Any idea how Mcgee and Williams firings affect recruiting for the second signing period?
I'm sorry, but all I'll ever remember Cumberland for is that he's the only person I've ever seen intercept a punt.
He was a gunner on the punt coverage team, running straight at the returner, I don't recall if he had called for a fair catch or not but I think he did. Right before the ball gets there Cumberland jumps up and catches the punt right in front of the returner and crashes into him. I believe he was called for kick catch interference.I don't recall this, how did that happen?
Nikko Hall planning an OV for Jan. Any 2 of Robertson, Jackson, Hall, Coleman would be a really nice way to close out this class, but hey why not get all 4

Hopefully it warms up here!
Still a ways to go, but 4 crystal ball predictions for Coleman to Illinois in the last 24 hours or so.
He would be a nice addition. Him and Merlin Robertson and a Nikko Hall. That would be lovely for us.
Yes it would! Anyone know what that would push our class rank up to if we got those three and assuming Coran Taylor still gets on board?
Not bad. A step up even from last year's class.Per 247 Sports class calculator, adding Hall, Robertson, and Coleman would give us a class score of 197.67, 34th in NCAA and 7th in B1G.
