The current goal for commitments:

Marquez Beason
Isaiah Williams
Jason Bargy
Shammond Cooper
Ira Henry
Nick Broeker
Fabian McCray
Joseph Thompson

Get these guys, then you can become serious contenders for guys like Jahleel Billingsley, Kyren Williams, Marcus Washington, Tyler Nubin, Erick Young, and Jaquaze Sorrels

Looking at Crystal balls, I think Cooper is the longest shot here. Not sure why we lack depth at linebacker given that Illinois and Lovie have a great track record with the position. Anyone have insight here?

Hello Marquez. Probably reading this thread now and saw we were all worried so he sent out that tweet. Haha.

Hello, thread.

I usually live in the basketball sphere of Illinois sports, but Dan's frontpage has clued me into the fact that there might be something special going on for the '19 recruiting class. Can some kind soul give me a synopsis and tell me whether or not I should start flipping out?

Maybe you can flip out in a good on Friday if Williams announces for Illinois.

Depends on your definition of flipping out...:D

At the moment we have two commits, Griffin Moore, a 3* TE from Bloomington and Marquez Beason, a high 4* ATH from Texas, likely to play CB for us. Beason is the 4th highest recruit we've gotten in the "rankings era" going by 247's composite ranking system. Using Robert from IlliniBoards method of translating the relative rank of a football recruit vs a basketball recruit, landing Beason is roughly similar to landing the number 8 basketball recruit in the nation.

On Friday, Isaiah Williams is likely to announce his college choice, with Illinois seen as one of the front-runners. He's a 5* ATH that we are recruiting as a QB. He plays at the high school that Cory Patterson, our new TE coach, most recently coached at, and has a bevy of talented teammates that could potentially be watching his decision.

On top of all of that, Beason has been heavily promoting the Illini on twitter to numerous high ranking recruits, and we're making in-roads with a trio of kids from Phillips Academy in Chicago, including a 4* TE, a 3* WR, and a 3* CB.

Landing Williams on top of Beason would put us in some truly uncharted territory as a program, and would give us a ton of momentum to put together a monster of a class.

If I've missed anything or gotten anything wrong, someone feel free to chime in.

Nothing wrong, but I would add that using the shorthand formula (which is obviously flawed, but does give a general idea), Williams would be the equivalent of getting the 5th best basketball recruit....along with the 8th best already committed.

I think that is a very solid list and very possible, which is even better. I was hoping we would be getting a commitment from Fabian and or Joseph T by now. But, and rightfully so, I am sure they do not want to share the spotlight with Isaiah's commitment either. So that may prolong their announcement. Which, I heard is going to be the case with Ira Henry. All the other Trinity guys are getting all the love so he is going to take his time and enjoy the recruiting process.

2006-2007 was pretty good. Zook had 5* Alaeze, 5* Wilson, 5* Benn, 5* Fayson, Millington transfer and 10-15 4* guys all coming into (or flaming out of) the program in a pretty small window.

Sounds to me like this could be a potential culture change.

I see the reason for the excitement now, thanks!

Spot on, minus the way underrated Texas DT (whose name escapes me). That (or anything close) would truly be a monster class.

So was the 247 article just click bait then? Why would they put that out there?

Mostly yes to question 1. See question 1 for the answer to question 2. But also, it was a legitimate concern at the time, and will remain one until he actually signs.

Interesting how that class may parallel this one and lead to quick results on the field. Benn etal joined a group of experienced battle tested guys who hadn't had much success and it led to the Rose Bowl.

This current group will be hitting campus when Lovie's underrated first class will be experienced Juniors. 2019 could be a very good season

word is a lot of players and players family's aren't real high on 247, thats for both BBall and FBall

Is this the same board who were writing Lovie’s epithet a few short weeks ago?

This recruiting class has had more action on Twitter than any other I have seen... the most recent *wow* moment was seeing Jalen Curry (a top 100 player in the country, 4 star WR) tweet about his Illinois offer TWICE and tell people to follow Marquez. He might not be legitimately interested, but even having him quote his own tweet just to bump the Illinois offer is great publicity and contributes to the momentum of the #ILLGang19 hype machine. Here is his profile and 247 page for anybody interested:
