I have a lot of confidence in this kid commiting here https://247sports.com/Player/Casey-Kline-46040033 originally committed to Arizona when Rod Smith was OC (tagged him also) https://twitter.com/caseykline_9/status/924805827919147008 . Then decommitted citing strictly coaching reasons he had at Arizona https://twitter.com/caseykline_9/status/949794208818151424. Also, read an article the other day he is looking to take an official visit sometime in the Spring.

How does he project? TE/DE?

I think as an OLB but according to his hs stats he plays LB, TE, and QB

He might love Rod as a person, but trying to understand why he would feel so much loyalty that he would follow him to Illinois.

I hope you are right, but I'm not sure that he is following Rod Smith. There was some coaching turmoil, which always opens the door to leave the program and he may have wanted to check his options. I've heard that he seems to be a UCLA lean.

An official visit to us?! And if you could find that article and link it, I'd love to read it. Assuming it isn't premium, of course. Thanks!

So as of now, he would be coming and only watching Cam Thomas as his potential QB...eh

They are recruiting him as a CB. It's more important that Byrd/Abraham develop some kind of relationship with him.

Needless to say, we're a long shot to land him but at least he's making an official visit.

We having started making a lot of "Last Cuts" and starting to get more OVs...eventually some are going to start to say yes...I would think

4-star ATH Marquez Beason has Illini in final four (Illinois, Texas A&M, Ohio State and LSU).
One of these is not like the others! ;)
True. The Illini have far more NFL coaching experience on their staff than those others. ;)

I wonder if this coaching staff has the strategy that they realize they likely aren't gonna be able to compete for a lot of the bigger named talent if they recruit them to the same position as everyone else. Rather, they find out that the recruit would like to play another position that most people aren't looking at them as in order to maybe get a leg up.

Examples: Recruit Verdis Brown as a DL even though he is a highly rated center; Recruit I. Williams as a QB even though he is highly rated as an ATH; and recruit Beason as a CB even though he is highly rated as a WR.

To be fair, I don't really know how highly rated these kids are at the "alternate" positions. I'm only going off how they are listed on the sites. Maybe Brown is just as good of a DL as he is a center, etc...
