They're still going to bring in a grad transfer for this year fyi.

I think Rivers is very far ahead of the other two freshmen so I'm intrigued at how they handle that.

I really thought that as well but every time I hear JW talk on the subject, he says that Robinson is probably the more ready out of the gate. I am interested to see who starts week 1. Quick breakdown of how I see the QBs strengths, all important:
Cam - Experience in College
Cordell - Runner
MJ - Thrower
Matt - Experience in the system

That post was made because he wants a basketball scholarship and no one is close to offering him.

Does this mean he would rather play college basketball over football?

As of today yes! He is learning that football might be his only option. We will see how it goes. This past season was his first year playing organized football.

IF cORAN PICKS UP THE OFFENSE AS WELL AS THE REST I THINK HE'S THE FAVORITE.
RAN A WATERED DOWN BUT SIMILAR SPREAD OFFENSIVE IN H.S., IS BIGGER THAN THE OTHER FRESHMEN BY QUITE A BIT, HAS A BIG ARM AND A VERY GOOD RUNNER. I'M NOT SURE ABOUT HIS OVERALL ACCURACY AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL. I'VE SEEN HIM 4 OR 5 TIMES IN H.S. AND AM VERY IMPRESSED. I DO HOPE THE ILLINI DON'T SEE THE ATHLETICISM AND CHANGE HIS POSITION. (I DON'T THINK THEY WILL SINCE THEY SEEM TO WANT THAT QUALITY IN THEIR QB)

The thing I hear a lot about Coran that I like the most is about his competitive fire, and he is a winner. We need guys like that on this team.....just ask Brad Underwood

During the past two recruiting cycles the Illini recruiting staff were too slow out of the starting blocks. Our competitors in the Big Ten (and beyond) had a significant number of verbal commitments by April-May while we had few or none. This needs to change. Yes, it's possible to scramble at the end of a recruiting cycle and land some good prospects, but that's not really an ideal scenario. Maybe it was understandable why it happened in the 2017 cycle, but it was less understandable when it also happened in this just-ended cycle. This will be Lovie's third recruiting cycle; it's time to get out there with the established programs and achieve some early recruiting results and momentum for the Illini program.

Listening to the Werner podcast today, sounds like Illinois is going to be in the Isaiah Williams recruitment to the very end. Sounds like the coaching staff is in good shape with him.

Werner with the inside scoop again. Lol
A great shot with Cooper, Williams, Henry. They'll each have a ton of offers, but after all the time, effort & hiring of CP, if we don't land 2 of the 3 it will be a recruiting disappointment

His first recruiting cycle wasn't a complete one as they got a late start. Couple that with the staff trying to make fresh connections within the state, etc, this latest cycle was better. I think they are making strides getting offers out early. Problem is with our recent lack of success, we will be slow played by some of the better recruits who may be looking for better programs to show interest or to tell them yes or no on conditional offers. Until we improve on the field, we will be a later results oriented program, IMO.

Yea , some of you are misunderstanding what I said

Recruiting QBs this 2018 class was a high priority , and it’s why we took 3. One will redshirt next year and run scout team and get lots of practice . The other 2 will be competing with Taylor to staRt under center on Sats in the fall . As was mentioned , it’s oftrn tough to keep multiple QBs in the same class for 4 years , and it’s more than likely one of the 3 guys in the 2018 class are playing a different position in 2019 or 2020, or have transferred out .

I would not be surprised if we get abother QB in this next class , esp with Smith here as our OC . Does that mean it’s a priority for this new class ? Maybe , but maybe not . The one lad we offered already , i believe is being recruited more as an ATH , but I readily Agree it’s a position that you ALWAYS seek to sign a highly rated guy , as often as you can . But it’s not the pressing need that it was 3 months ago .

And yes , class balance is important . Ours is not tight now . But if we sign 16 players in 2019, and all are rated 86 or better, and none are QBs, we would be ok with that .

That said , who doesn’t want a 5 star QB sometime ? If you don’t offer them , you don’t have a chance , so make the offers , by all means .

I don't think that this only applies to QB. I think that we have the foundation for a power 5 team and we have created pipelines. Although the team is not close to being fully built out, I think we can start to get more selective and start to press for higher ranked players. This is the year we should pick up more playmakers and they will have a team around them where they can perform. Obviously we still lack in depth and experience at almost every position, but this is the year that we start to land the future of the program.

I think this is an interesting take, but I don't think our program will ever compete with the Big Boys. I don't think that we will land a bevy of 5*. Plus, players still need to pass academic standards. We don't compete with Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, etc. We compete with Northwestern, Michigan, Stanford, etc.

Plus, we are still looking for players that will grind and not see results. We are still looking for people that will come in and play right away, in some instances with little substantial competition. I do think that this will be a better class and probably Lovie's first full recruiting cycle (one where almost no one was off the board when he started recruiting) and best recruiting class. And I agree that we need to lockdown solid players early. I think the area has a lot of great talent and we can get that to work. I just don't think that our academic standards will allow us to compete with Florida State.

Its a HUGE weekend....and then a LONG season. Think about all the stress and speculation that is going to happen in the next 10 months before these dudes can sign. I gotta just keep breathing

With this graphic, I start to get excited and the feeling we are going to land all of them. I don’t actually think we will, but it’s exciting. realsitcally, who seems to be more likely to come? Are there any players we wouldn’t take? Does anyone have any better info?

Statement came from Allen Trieu, who was on the podcast. The jist was that Williams often mentions Illinois early when discussing schools that are recruiting him, and that he isn't lost in the glitz and glamour of the blue bloods.

So Marcus Washington is already gone?

If the above is correct, based on past experience, my guess is that we get Williams and Henry and Andrews and Childress.

And we miss on Cooper and Washington, which are huge needs.

I myself at least would be content with 3 top 1000 recruits including a 5 star quarterback

I am not sure I would have it any other way. If you have ever listened to Devin Hester talk and was an alum of FSU...I wouldn't want that feeling.

Hester went to Miami.
