He just announced on his Instagram page that he’s staying at Miami.

So, probably still a 40-50% chance he doesn’t, but...

2 teams are fighting over a talented player, let's see what happens.
Problem is that talented player would rather stay at Miami.
Nothing from Bob A yet ... but I’m surprised Lovie is giving JT this many chances ... he didn’t give McCray or the other WR decommit even a second chance

I’m over this saga :-(
Those other WR aren’t NFL talents.

Seems like a guy who might be challenged in following team rules and given Lovie’s strict posture, ya gotta wonder how much he’d be on the field anyway.

Makes Zeriah and Mookie that much more important. Need Nfl level talent at the playmaker positions

1. Definitely another reason to hate Miami.

2. Our offseason has still been great and we will likely be better off without the headaches he seems to cause.

3. Even with momentum and progress, you can't take the Illinois out of Illinois.

I still feel really good about the quality of the transfers and recruits. This must mean that there are 3 schollies to fill?

Yes. Cedric Claiborne is visiting this weekend.

Other recruits to keep an eye on:

Dominic said before the end of the dead period that he's hoping to set up an OV before he signs on February 6th:

Let me also add, the UM coach tweets seem to indicate he gone.

Lovie isn’t a media guy. He mostly ignores it. I don’t think he has heard anything different from Thomas before today.

What a weird situation. I actually though his best chance to get drafted high was to have a positive recommendation from lovie regardless of performance

His best chance to get drafted high has nothing to do with Lovie Smith. If things with the Miami coaching staff wouldn't have gone south last year, none of this would have even been a rumor or happened at all. He would have just stayed at Miami and played next year. His best chance of getting drafted is continuing to perform well on the college football field, and Miami provides visibility that Illinois doesn't, just because it's Miami. Finishing at Miami was always his best option, assuming the relationship was good.

The worst thing that happened to Illinois through all this was Richt retiring and an entirely new staff coming in. If that doesn't happen, Thomas is an Illini.
