You mean Mayala right, the kid from Atlanta? I wouldn't know, no good contacts there. He's not bad though.
Yes the mayalla kid. I know the staff has tried getting him on a visit. Another wild card to keep our ears open for us Joshua Eaton. Kid is taking visits in the spring and I know the staff was interested. Super long shot but worth noting.

Of all the failures in the life of HS recruiting, this one is far down the list.

Not as important as continually landing a QB or OL/DL prospects but failing to land even 1 in 2 years needs to be a major cause for concern. Add in that no one on the current roster was able to competently fill in the spot opposite Brown this year and it becomes one of the biggest ?s for this team in 2020 and beyond.

Bold: Why?

You can put that to rest, it's not happening. Josh has a direction he and his family want to go.

Are you asking me why it is a concern that our coaches have failed to land any quality recruits for 2 years at a position that accounts for 2/11 of the defense?

Yes.

Before you respond, keep in mind, I can break this defensive scheme down in my sleep.

Green says hi.

Not sure why this matters, outside of perception. Midwest states don't play the in-state game, they play the border game.
Can you elaborate on this border thing? This is at last second time I've seen you post this and I don't know what you mean. Sorry if you already explained it before

Everyone knows they are after some DB's still. JUCO, Preps, and transfers. Maybe they know something we do not. It is puzzling to say the least. We really knew of only three and they all went elsewhere. One was a head scratcher in where they went. But, they are not done. We also had some injured that never even saw the field. Maybe they know something there.

I concede to your knowledge of this scheme. Please explain to me why the staff no longer needs to recruit P5 quality safeties moving forward so I can stop worrying.

I broke it down in a lot more detail (Very long post) but that was a long time ago. No worries.

It's statistically proven that high end HS seniors (Composite score of .88 and above was used for this study) are far more likely (6.9 of every 10) to sign with a university that is either located in their home state or directly on it's border. Schools in talent rich states like Texas, Florida and California generally disregard the border as the states themselves have ample talent to self sustain the larger universities. A&M and Tech generally benchmark a successful cycle at 50-60% signings from Texas alone. Midwest states cannot individually match those types of talent pools and as such, those schools would generally benchmark their internal goal percentage around the border. Iowa is the poster child for this strategy.

Signing kids from Illinois is no more important for us than signing kids from Missouri. Having no decent in-road to Indiana is a significantly bigger problem for us/me than getting skunked in Texas.

Jarrett flip stunned many in the industry. Maryland could lose 10 Newton’s and still be the big winner of ESP. That kid’s talent is off the charts.
RJ mother has been very sick and he wants to stay close to home, at least that is the word i got from his high school coach

Tony Adams will be moved back to safety with Hobbs, Beason, and Spoon at corner. Would like to see us pickup Jevaun Jacobsen, kid looks like he could be a great safety. I see us going the juco and transfer route for safety’s in the 2021 cycle

I didn't know that, that's too bad. Hope everything works out for them and for the kid going forward...even if it is Maryland.

I don’t see any of this happening tbh.

Nope. Do not see that happening. I guess it could, but, if we grab a solid transfer. Nope.

Nebraska got a lot better today. Lovie needs a 2021 class like that if he hopes to compete in the BIG West.

It’s all about how he recovers. Tony will likely have to move but it’s not a plug and play situation for beason. Torn ACL is something the staff has to take seriously. Also Derrick smith might be playing Safety.

While that's definitely true, when he does get back to himself, he's our most talented player. Period. If you don't move Tony, you're not playing the best 11. Tony has to move.

Yeah when healthy he’s definitely the best option with Adams at safety and Witherspoon as the 3rd corner. Im interested in seeing smith get a crack at safety as well. And I know he didn’t play great last year but Delano Ware interest me.

Smith won’t last there and neither will Ware. It’s Tony and a transfer.

It's much more likely that Adams stays at CB and Hobbs declares for the draft. Remember this?

Illinois HC Lovie Smith told The Athletic's Matt Fortuna that junior CB Nate Hobbs might be the best pro prospect on the roster.
Yes, it's worth keeping in mind that being the best pro prospect on the Illini doesn't mean as much as being the best pro prospect on a lot of other teams. That being said, Hobbs (6'0/190) is an interesting corner who has decent size and has been a contributor over the last two years. If he takes another step forward, he could be a mid-round selection, but keep in mind he has two years of eligibility left to vault himself into that status.
