Good point. But there is a difference in whether the staff needs to scramble because they feel they are behind and need to make up ground and this staff isn't at the point of scrambling. There are plenty of solid players we are in on and will land. The staff would argue that the people they are bringing in have higher ceilings than most of who that brought in with the first class.

When I was saying this earlier, this is what I meant. The staff has 2 more commits we should hear from soon and they don’t feel behind. They definitely fell they missed on some recruits that they liked, but they aren’t upset, nor are they thinking they won’t have the talent they need to win games.

we aren’t there yet; but this class is shaping up to be as good as, if not better than, the class that leaves this year. Not to say they will be ready as true sophomores, but they will be contributors and have the talent to win games, regardless of what other teams have, in terms of talent. Assuming we close out the class similar to how we started the class, I am not worried about the recruiting. This isn’t to imply that this class is handled. Far from being handled. The staff needs to close it out, but there is no reason for me to think they won’t.

Now to the question of coaching. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with the staff. I’m just sharing the perspective I get from them.

Many on this board complain about game management, I’m not saying I don’t get the complaints. But the staff works to instill trust and faith in the players. They don’t make a big deal of losing games, especially because of last minute antics. Instead they focus on Learning and instilling A culture of faith in the players to have confidence in one another. Instead they expect the players to make the plays and hit game winning field goals, make game winning picks, etc. they believe that a culture where everyone instills trust in everyone is more important for winning games than the possible few games (Throughout their tenure) they get from coaching antics. They look to how Bobby coached up tolson before his first game as more important in having tolson believe in himself and the team believing in one another as more important for both the culture and wins and losses over a long period than getting a single win because of clock management. The idea is the latter sometimes has kids question themselves and get self conscious down the stretch of games, which inhibitsplayers from making plays.

This is what I have gathered from interactions with the coaching Staff

I’m hearing we are in a good spot with Brody wisecarver out of St. Louis. 3/4* top 500 O-lineman. Would be another very solid get. We’re in on his teammate as well.

I think we are going to feel very good about our OL recruiting really soon. Seems we are in a good spot with multiple.

I think people need to realize is we’re only gonna have about 20 preps in this class. I assume we’re gonna keep 5 scholarships open for transfers every year. We are sitting at 5 commits (I’m counting Buchannnon) and it sounds like we have 2 on the way. Meaning we have 13-15 spots left. We really like late rising seniors that have good tape. So I except us not to fill our class up by August. We are also gonna recruit guys committed elsewhere (Newton, Cooper Davis as examples). And I agree we have some instate kids (Hess, carsello, kreutz, barlev) and out of state (Timmons, barber, wiscarver, Lillelbridge, ball) that we’re in good spots with. I think we take 3-4 O linemen and I think they will be fine. The position I need to see who we get is at WR, that is something we need desperately.

That is probably a spit we find late risers and kids committed elsewhere. Not sure Cannon is trending our way anymore. Seems more Mizzou or Arkansas. Outside of him I couldn't even name any legit targets.

Yeah I really don’t know where our receiving targets are. Cameron Bonner had a virtual visit with the staff, but Baylor leads there. Cannon had some mutual interest. Theodore lockley is another guy. Receivers in general are easy to find later in the cycle.

For all the people who argue one side of ”Top Illinois Recruits vs Middling Southern Recruits“ this class should put one side to rest.

Based on Werner and Easterling picks, he seems like the obvious new commitment. This would be another solid addition by the staff. Seeing offers from Auburn, Miami, Louisville, and Purdue are good signs.
He runs the 100 in the 10.8 range.

But wait, there's more local news on the way.

Don’t keep us waiting 😎

Right now, I've heard of 8 commits in this class. One coming in a little more than an hour. One coming tomorrow. One waiting for visits and another that I have not heard anything about an actual timeframe. Don't know if they are silent verbals. I have my guesses on who they are. I think only one is on offense. But I have no extra information.

Good stuff! Thanks for sharing

Jeremy Werner @JWerner247 ·12m

Top-400 OL Brody Wisecarver (@bwise9869) plans to announce a college decision on Saturday, and the #illini are in the running with a late push. "I like them," he said. "It’s a great school with good academics."
This would be a huge get at a position of need. I think we stand pretty well. He’s a great academic kid, that should play well for us.
