Ewers signed with an autograph company in exchange for autographs, with them betting he is cheaper now that he would be if he makes it big. His autograph worth doesn't matter which school he goes to. Unless it was explicitly set up by Ohio state he didn't take OSU money and run.
Well to the extent that’s the case, then who should complain? They aren’t paying him to go to Ohio State.

The most valuable marketing assets to third parties are the loyal servants of passionate, long-suffering programs.

Ayo Dosummu’s autograph is worth more at Illinois than it would be at Kentucky.

Agreed, if all NILs were third party. It wouldn't matter or would matter less what school you go to.

But if Texas is an indication that's not how it's going to play out. They are explicitly paying to come to Texas, and it's not hard to see it become an escalating NIL arms race just like facilities and coaching salaries.

His autograph is worth the most if he is an NBA star, regardless of what college he went to.

Absolutely. Wealthy people have big money to throw around but aren't going to be stupid or taken advantage of. You generally don't make big money by making bad financial decisions. Schools throw around huge coaching money but don't have to pay it if the coach leaves. If you were a high roller and were willing to give $8M, or some portion of that, wouldn't you be pissed if that player left a semester later and kept your money? Essentially a 19 year old playing you for a fool. People will shell out big $ but they expect a return on it.

Here's a thought. Texas has already established a "Pancake Factory" program for the offensive line and called out how much it pays. If you believe the chatter it sounds like they are considering $5M+ plus for a top, unproven QB. Why not publicly announce a "Golden Arm" program for $5M? Think you would have at least one great current QB desiring to transfer to Texas and sign a $5M contract, contingent on staying at the school? Especially if they are a great college QB who's game would not likely translate to the NFL (see Tebow, Tim) and won't make much money, if any, in the NFL. I do.
Taking it further, what happens if the player doesn't produce results commensurate with the expectations that come with the amount of money spent? Let's say the player turns out to be a bust, doesn't win games, loses the starting job, doesn't work well with the coaches, or just gets injured and can't play. I imagine those types of things happening commonly. How are boosters, fans, et. al. going to treat that player or generally react in those scenarios? Bet your beach house it won't be magnanimous.

Great point. I wonder if it will evolve (or already has) to lawyer-led full contractual languages and out clauses? Given my obsession with the topic I should become an NIL lawyer. I don't have a law degree but did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Anyone want to start a firm with me??

Not the transfer of our dreams maybe but not bad, probably the rough equivalent of Peters when he arrived.

That he’s able to be here for spring ball helps a lot. Leary too, right?

DeVito, Leary, Ryan Johnson and Collier is an adequate QB group to make spring meaningful (Art is out remember) which it absolutely has to be as the roster transitions.
