Don't want to put too much stock into just a stat but DiVito's QBR in '19 (his good year) was worse that Peters QBR this year. Hopefully there are some better options out there, but the better QBs are going to want to see how we shore up the OL. While I don't think Martinez fits the scheme BB wants to run, but I'd take him if he wanted to come. He had much better results and stats. I thought Martinez' only big issue was trying to do too much to cover for the rest of the team. They kept losing because of Frost's coaching and bonehead plays like that kickoff muff vs us.

There’s absolutely no chance Martinez comes here. He’s going to transfer to a place that runs as much RPO action as possible. Illinois is not going to provide that for him (and shouldn’t). Let’s move on (same with Ewers conversation, he’s going back to Texas or a blue blood).

Not going to pretend I know what goes into QBR, nor that I know anything much about DiVito as I’ve never seen him play. But I’d say DiVito’s 2019 season was better than Peters’ past season. DiVito threw almost twice as many passes as Peters (337 vs 170), and though maybe not a perfect comparison if you compare DiVito’s numbers to a doubling of Peters’ you get:

337 att, 63.2%, 2360 yds, 19 TD, 5 Int
340, 53.5%, 2340, 14, 8

The only area DiVito was worse in than Peters was sacks — 44 versus 30. I don’t know if that says more about DiVito potentially being a statue or the Syracuse team overall. But looking at the point totals in their games, it appears Cuse didn’t have much of a D. And looking at leading rushers in games, they didn’t have the rushing attack the Illini had this year. I’m not advocating for DiVito, but by the looks of things I think a season like Peters’ 2019 season would be closer to what we might expect with DiVito based on past numbers. That would have likely gotten the Illini another couple of wins this year.

My top two realistic QBs would be the Duke transfer or the Akron transfer. Wouldn’t mind DeVito though.
Danny?

Martinez would be so bad for our play style. He’s turned it over too much for 4 years. With our style we MUST take care of the ball.

Syracuse kid doesn’t jump off the page for me. I feel like the transfer madness this offseason there should be a better option

I would prefer Zach Gibson (Akron) and Gunnar Holmberg (Duke) over DeVito. No idea if Bielema has any interest but I wouldn't mind Jack Sears (Boise State via USC) or Parker McQuarrie (UCLA) as well. McQuarrie is more of a long-term play with four more years of eligibility.

Is there any chance for Jack Miller? That would be best-case scenario but I'm assuming he's above our pay grade.

Gibson would have 3 years of eligibility left too. Haven’t seen either one play but Gibson having 1200 yds 69 completion % and 10 tds to 0 int’s across 7 games this season is intriguing.

These are the guys I was looking at. I don't think BB will settle with just anyone warm body.

Wouldn’t art be lucky to be healthy by mid/late summer? Not saying collier or leary can’t develop into a starting qb, but id feel a ton better knowing we brought in a guy or 2 with d-1 experience at qb for next yr to elevate competition and just roll with art and the young guys. Devito fits the bill, 1 yr stop gap with plenty of experience and there is plenty of guys that would work, curious who wants to come here or who the staff can convince to come here. Oh and out of curiosity, if devito does come here, wouldn’t he be joining art, peters and lunt as another 4 star transfer qb coming to Illinois?
