Wouldn’t art be lucky to be healthy by mid/late summer? Not saying collier or leary can’t develop into a starting qb, but id feel a ton better knowing we brought in a guy or 2 with d-1 experience at qb for next yr to elevate competition and just roll with art and the young guys. Devito fits the bill, 1 yr stop gap with plenty of experience and there is plenty of guys that would work, curious who wants to come here or who the staff can convince to come here. Oh and out of curiosity, if devito does come here, wouldn’t he be joining art, peters and lunt as another 4 star transfer qb coming to Illinois?

I'd pass on stop gaps really unless it's a grad transfer who is already a proven star(IE: not lost starting job or injuries). You either have confidence in your guys or you don't.

Bret is just getting started, and it makes the most sense to get a starter you can build around.

Isn’t the answer we do not have confidence? Need to try someone other than what we have.

Well proven QBs (rattler for example) are gonna have their pick of where to go and it isn’t gonna be Illinois. The staff also isn’t going to throw their freshman QB to the wolves. He needs time to develop and get reps in practice. So stop gaps it is. They would prefer a transfer QB with multiple years of eligibility though.

DeVito seems like a reasonable option for where the program is right now. Perhaps in the future, Illinois will be able to get a bigger name, higher pedigree QB. But he did have some productive time at Syracuse.

Also, I am guessing he's probably not the only transfer QB the Illini are in on. The QB market could move quickly.

Indiana QB Michael Penix to transfer.

I wouldn't mind taking a risk on an injury prone QB with a big upside knowing that sitkowski is a serviceable backup. I just don't want him as our starter without much talent behind him.
