Also, is there any thought that some of these preferred walk-ons can somehow get NIL money at P5 school which helps make up for the scholarship at an FCS school?
Most guys are getting a few free meals and gear. A PWO isn’t going to make any amount of money that is near a scholarship at any school

I‘ll be interested to see who the player is and where they are going. I can’t help but wonder if attendance at football games over the last several decades hasn’t sealed our place outside the elite forever. If kids don’t become fans while theyre in college, there is little chance they are going to feel compelled to spend their wealth on Illinois football after they graduate. But students that celebrated championships while in school will forever remember those days and want to see them continue. Obviously just my opinion and fear. It’s why, especially during times like we’ve experienced with half empty (I’m being generous) stadiums, I’d like to see the students get in free. It’s an investment in the future of the program.

Couldn't agree with you more on Illinois student engagement with the football program through free tickets. I'd add steeply discounted first-time season tickets for graduates of the last 10 years.

I was a 1981 graduate and have been a season ticket holder and IFund donor ever since because of the success and electric (full) stadium atmosphere of the early 80's Mike White teams. I have supported the football program for 40+ years because I "got hooked" after graduation. Not true for current students and grads of the last decade. Need to give them an incentive to become involved then, hopefully, results will deliver future ticket buyers and donors.

Interior OL, for sure. Highly doubt if Miller is going to limit him to one position. Hopefully, the kid will pan out like Karras (another Greek-American).
From the few videos I watched, Sam played Left Tackle on offense, DE on the “D.”

Getting Bahr would have been nice, but at this point can’t blame the kid for choosing UM. I think BB’s approach to recruiting IL high schools and building those relationships will pay off in time. Hopefully snag some good ones this year, and then really make a dent with 2024 class.

Agree. I don’t expect us to win many battles with Michigan after their recent success. When we start winning the battles with Iowa and Northwestern consistently, then I’ll raise my sights I suppose. Still, it would have been great to land him. As BB has said, we need a football Ayo (or 2) to break the barrier.

Agreed on 2024 being a make or break year for recruiting. Likely won't make any noise this year with a stopgap QB/new OC, but the focus needs to be on showing signs of life on offense in 2023 to improve recruiting

So, should we get our hopes up?
IMO...yes! Unless announcement is hosted by a former Arizona player.

This is probably a dumb question, but what position do we think Feagin will play at Illinois? I'd probably guess LB with any coach other than Bielema, but he'd look great splitting carries at RB with McCray, Laughery, etc.
