Hayden is the real deal. He transferred to ESL from a small private school. He is a very high level kid. Played at a high level last season against Bosco and IMG. He hasn't participated in any camps (T Shirts and Shorts) which is why they are slow to give him stars. He will start as a Freshman in college.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Some '24 in-staters starting to earn 4* status: WR Cam Williams (has visited Iowa a bunch) and DL Justin Scott (UI first to offer), Darrion Dupree

Scott got #34 overall
Darrion Dupree #95
Williams #124
Tysean Griffin #202
Eddie Tuerk #212 (seems enamored with UM and Iowa)

Also, Joey Okla's teammate OL Jensen gets #239

Some additional '24 in-staters getting stars:
- Grant Stec 3* 5.7 (#9 TE overall)
- I'Marion Stewart 4* 5.8 (#29 WR overall)

My impression was Bielema is looking to take a step up in recruiting this year. I don’t remember exactly how he phrased it, but something to the effect of wanting the first guys to commit to set a standard for the class. I took that to mean higher profile guys.

Time to add a column, with some way to rank each player, for NIL

The star system of ranking a player just on ability/skill is insufficient and perhaps a poor indicator where the kid stands

Of course this assumes that NIL matters are open source
Reminds me a “little” of lower football division’s who offer player’s different amounts of athletic scholarship dollars depending on how they value you. Coach’s won’t tell you what they offered other recruits, you just have to figure that out when you get on campus and make friends lol

I wasn't sure where to put this. I thought there was a NIL conversation but I didn't see it.

I would say any school with successful alumni should be able to be competitive now. This just makes legal what has been going on in the big time programs all along.

But 8 million. This soon. How many years does it take to count that high? I favor a separate thread, so I can at least turn a blind eye and pretend that nothing has changed. I know it may help tilt the scales more our way, but just hard to stomach. Always hated the Yankees. If the neighbor's car gets too much snazzier than mine, my jealousy turns to disinterest. It would be nice to just go on believing that college sports play for the sport of it still. Little League next?

I‘ll be interested to see who the player is and where they are going. I can’t help but wonder if attendance at football games over the last several decades hasn’t sealed our place outside the elite forever. If kids don’t become fans while theyre in college, there is little chance they are going to feel compelled to spend their wealth on Illinois football after they graduate. But students that celebrated championships while in school will forever remember those days and want to see them continue. Obviously just my opinion and fear. It’s why, especially during times like we’ve experienced with half empty (I’m being generous) stadiums, I’d like to see the students get in free. It’s an investment in the future of the program.

I’m fully on board with the walk on’s being important to our future. I wonder how many PWO’s eventually become scholarship players. 50%? Anyone close to the program have an idea?
Also, is there any thought that some of these preferred walk-ons can somehow get NIL money at P5 school which helps make up for the scholarship at an FCS school?
