Speaking of Lovie he's on Mcafees show right now and said he is thrilled to be back in the NFL because it is just only coaching.

Translation "I never had even a slight interest in recruiting, thank you for the checks though"
Translation "I've been away from the college game too long and recruiting 24/7/365 took a toll on myself and my family. I thought my name brand and years in the NFL, in Texas, Florida and Illinois would have produced more than it did. I'm glad I can keep st coach now, which is what I love to do."

Be fair to the guy. If anyone should have read into that more, it was Whitman, who hired him, but even that thought process was good. Lovie gave immediate credibility to the program and his history is in key recruiting states. He just didn't have the stamina or assistants in place to make it work.

Wow..a fair and level headed take on this board. What a refreshing sight to see!

The part of the job that Lovie was horrible at was not only recruiting, but hiring and empowering assistants. He had LOUSY assistant coaches who wouldn't/couldn't recruit and then he had a decent offensive coordinator but ran an offense that was designed to create the least amount of pressure on his defense. It's no secret that his MVP for this last three years was the punter!

I liked Lovie as a person, but he rarely showed any spirit or motivation for the players. And he'll disappoint and get fired from the Texan job as well. Would that be his ninth life?

Bielema is miles ahead. Now, if HE would quit punting....

Im right down the highway from ALAH. Gonna have to watch this manchild destroy those small town schools around here this fall
I expected the same last year when he started to get offers. Figured he would be unstoppable against the other 1A schools Don’t know how they give out stars, but he must be the real deal if ND, IL, IA are all chasing him.

Some '24 in-staters starting to earn 4* status: WR Cam Williams (has visited Iowa a bunch) and DL Justin Scott (UI first to offer), Darrion Dupree

Scott got #34 overall
Darrion Dupree #95
Williams #124
Tysean Griffin #202
Eddie Tuerk #212 (seems enamored with UM and Iowa)

Also, Joey Okla's teammate OL Jensen gets #239

#34 overall isn’t a 5 star in football? That’s like a top 15ish player in basketball.

Crystal ball (from national/regional guy, Allen Trieu) for ESL LB Antwon Hayden (2023): https://247sports.com/Player/Antwon-Hayden-46108966/
I know nothing about Hayden other than what is on his 247 page, so other than him being an in-state recruit and from ESL (which I know are good things), would this be considered a good get if he chooses Illinois? Just wondering as his offer list is fairly mundane.

So in looking for more info on Hayden, I saw that Writing Illini (I know, I know, not a good source) had an article on him. So in the article, there was something that made me laugh (not the writer’s intent, but I often find that within articles from this site, especially ones written by Rees. He says that Hayden announced on his Twitter that he will be visiting Illinois in June. Now that’s great news. But wait, according to Rees: “While that is some big news, it wasn’t the biggest news to form in the past couple of days.” So what is bigger news than information about a recruit from a recruit? Well, of course, a Crystal Ball on 247 for Hayden to Illinois. Come on. I mean I follow the site for recruiting and like it when crystal balls go the Illini’s way, but that is just silly.

Hayden is the real deal. He transferred to ESL from a small private school. He is a very high level kid. Played at a high level last season against Bosco and IMG. He hasn't participated in any camps (T Shirts and Shorts) which is why they are slow to give him stars. He will start as a Freshman in college.
