I wish the highlights were full frame, but have to admit the “hosts” reactions are kind of funny. Can definitely see why he was offered despite his size. Actual highlights start about 45 seconds in.

Looks way better on his hudl. Makes some guys look like they're learning to ice skate for the first time.

Another one of the many offers going out to Floridians the last few days. Found this one interesting because of his size (5-8, 140) and his sparse offer list compared to others recently offered.

I wasn’t able to find any track numbers on him the way I normally am for some kids. I assume he’s fast at that size but nothing documented vs other fast people.

Any ideas what position he’s being recruited for?

Another 2022 offer: Noah Matthews

Delaware recruit. Defensive lineman (edge?). He's gotten a lot of offers recently but nothing at the same magnitude as Illinois.

Didn’t want to link whole article here, so hopefully this is OK. Text below is from Werner’s free Daily Digest on Illini Inquirer, and it gives nice definition of a blueshirt scholarship and sheds light on the Illini’s recent recruiting of 2022 prospects.

“ Why it matters: Illinois only has a few open scholarships in the Class of 2022 but is offering some prospects — including [Xavier] Scott and [Noah] Matthews — a blueshirt scholarship. If a player blueshirts, he would count toward the program’s current 25-scholarship allotment in the next recruiting class (in this case 2023), but he cannot be officially recruited (cannot take an official visit, cannot sign a national letter of intent, etc.) and cannot officially join the team until after the first day of 2022 fall practice. Illinois has done this often in recent years, including last year with transfers Jack Badovinac and Max Rosenthal.”

6-6 and 260Lbs. Nice size for edge rusher (OLB) or beefed up into DL.

Interesting. So no summer workouts then. Are they actually on scholarship for 22, just don’t count against the limit until 23? Seems like maybe something you would do if you are sure they will be redshirting anyway. Not sure I get it with transfers, but that’s why I’m here instead of coaching. 🤔

Hope we’re not filing the class Lovie style. I’ll reserve judgement.. for now. Really need some transfers though

It's normal to have this concern. I will say the late bloomers are going to be especially interesting to me this this year (and next year) because of COVID's impact on HS play + recruiting. I'm predicting we are going to have a greater amount of "unknown" recruits that will excel in college than normal. If you can find a couple of these guys now and not let them go the Weber State's for a couple years before they jump to Oregon/USC, then I'm all for it. It's still a risk.

I’m guessing by having the blueshirts, you still get to add young guys to develop, while still being able to add the transfers for immediate impact. And scholly numbers are supposed to be below 85 anyways, so can add a few players like this I assume.

There must be some other advantage for the school to blue shirt someone, because they didn't come close to hitting the class limit last year to blue shirt Badovinac and Rosenthal. And that's two more recruits not included in 24/7's class calculator for 2022.

Another one from Werner, another no offers. Lot of projects

Was thinking he might be a potential TE -> OL project, but after seeing this picture next to Bret, I think the 6'6" listing is very generous.

BB and crew hitting the Florida area hard. I love it! I might be one of the most optimistic on this board about our recruiting.

I 100% go on BB and his track record of recruiting and developing players. I factor it like this in no particular order.......or can pack them together

Due to Covid, recruiting ratings might be skewed a bit

Florida is loaded with prospects!!! Not ranked and lower ranked FL recruits develop and contribute at the collegiate level all the time.

BB is all about getting the talent in Illinois to stay in state. Florida has so many more prospects each year. We have offered to a few guys in Palm Beach alone. All about hitting the FL areas and getting the pipeline set for future years as well.
