Long-time lurker (decades?) and finally decided to go active. I know there are a couple other Cary-area guys on here, wanted to comment on Sheehan's commit. Lived here 21 years and both kids graduated from CG. Does Robert give Tom Cruises to PWOs? ;-)

Size of school: 6A / 7A border, depending on what schools make the playoffs in a given year. Usually end up top of 6A.
STRONG football program - 6 title game appearances since 2004 (3-3). Sun-Times named them top overall team last year after win over ESL (all classes).
They run a triple-option offense, which is why you see all the rushing TDs and few passing TDs. CG rarely throws.
Given that, I cannot see Sheehan as an Illini QB in BB's offense. Will be interested to see where he ends up playing.
After football, CG's biggest contribution is to your stomach, alumnus:
I-L-L
I N I

7A? I'm remembering a bygone era when 6A was the biggest. Our school played ESL in the 6A playoffs in the Late 80s.

Thanks for the insight. It's been about 15 years now since I lived in Lake in the Hills.

I used to attend all the games (at least 1st half, daughter in the marching band), half time scores regularly 35-3, and such. They used to run an RPO when they won state in 2018. But most years, clearly a run focused offense.
Same, son in marching band and daughter in dance team.

Usually they will have someone that can play D1. Though, I found it amazing that CG looks like a frosh team in size, compared to a lot of their playoff opponents. However, once the game starts, they generally do very well. It seems that either CG or Prairie Ridge (conference rival) go to state every year from this area.
Agree, though I'd clarify that it's usually the lower- to mid-parts of D1. Non "Power 5" or whatever they are calling the big conferences now. Biggest recent was 5-6 years ago, one of their OL (Trevor Ruhland) went to Notre Dame, started a few games there as a junior / senior. Otherwise, it's big news here when one goes to the MAC.

It's all about the system at CG...from the start of Junior Trojan football (not sure which grade?) every team is running that same offense. By the time they get to high school, those kids have been running it for 6, 7 years. Very few errors and a smooth machine on the field.

One more fun fact and I'll get off my CG soapbox...every CG football team last year (freshman, sophomore, JV, and Varsity) went undefeated. Amazing stat and the machine keeps rolling.

Hoping the staff is hitting the portal hard for DL. Looks like we don't have any commits this cycle in a position group that's already thin

Seemed like Illini have been “signing” more PWOs and they likely have been. BB said in his presser that Whitman allowed him to expand walk on program.
Wisconsin had a fantastic walk-on program established by Alvarez and continued by Bielema that produced a ton of good players, even some that went on the NFL. Most notably, JJ Watt.

Anyone have any insight into the Hunter Nourzad transfer? My search shows he still hasn't selected a program. Be a nice addition.

This is good news and it again reinforces me that Mr Whitman and Coach B are NOT messing around and actually taking their jobs seriously. So refreshing to hear for a change.

Not sure if this is the right place, but just saw that former 4-star James Frenchie Jr. has landed at Div. II Missouri Southern State. 👀

We would have done this under Lovie but he was too busy also coaching the defense.

"Coaching" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Yikes. Then again he might have had other offers and wanted to get closer to home. Thought he would be a good addition for a team like Miami (OH) or Ohio U., or even Missouri State if he was wanting get back to his home state.

Interesting to see the 247 rankings for the new Illinois commitments: Both 3-stars (not surprising). Scott ranked 1358 and Cargill at 1415. 247 seems higher on Cargill (247 rating of 85). Not sure how meaningful these rankings are this late in the process (and neither having other recent offers). Noah Matthews would have been more intriguing because of his burst of D1 offers and being in a less-heralded football state (he signed with Kentucky).

Not sure if this was reported on here already but just saw Terrell Jones ended up signing with Virginia.

As explained by Jeremy Werner:

Blueshirts join the team and are eligible for the 2022 season, but they cannot be officially recruited (official visits, national letters of intent, etc.) and are not put on scholarship until after the first day of practice.
I also believe they can practice during the summer/ fall camp as a walk-on (as per Werner ona podcast). Will definitely help with development.

I don’t remember the source, but I was told/read they can’t be there for summer, but when official fall camp starts they can join the team. So I’m not sure if Werner reported it differently.

It’s probably just my ears, not Werner
