Both 3-stars (not surprising)

The star rating system has gotten so ridiculous. Pretty much every D1 player gets 3 stars these days. At least 247 does their 4-decimal score and Rivals has the RR (which helps a little). Conversations should be much more focused on those metrics instead of the blanket "3 stars, 4 stars, etc.". Not a critique of the poster, more just pointing out the ridiculous star inflation that has occurred over the years

AMEN to this!

Some players develop....some will transfer out....some will make it to the NFL....some will start......some will be good depth....some are only special teams players....etc, etc

Alex Palchewski got hurt his junior year in high school and didn't play at all. He was basically a no star recruit. He had a monster senior season and became a 3 star recruit. This stuff happens all the time. Look at the NFL Draft "experts" and GMs who get picks wrong each and every year. Tom Brady is one of the best football players of all time and he went in the 6th round. Simeon Rice posted it very respectably, I just smirk when a poster comments about needing this 4 star recruit when most of the time they have no background on the player anyways.

Below is a link where 247 explains how the star system works. Most FBS players will get 3 stars but the number rating is the big difference. Low 3* players are generally expected to be G5 starters, mid 3* are expected to be P5 starters and high 3* players are expected to be impact players at the P5 level.

Thanks for the link. I've never seen it broken down like that. I think it is safe to say its all about development for the majority of kids. Bielema has shown in the past he can develop pretty darn good! If we can start getting classes of mostly top 750 kids we should be in great shape.

Anyone know if we've offered Khalil Tate or K'vion Thunderbird from Kenwood? Not showing offers on the recruiting sites, which would be odd given they both have offers from pretty significant names. If we're focused on in-state, you'd think we'd be ahead of the game on some of these Chicago recruits

Not all offers from other schools are legit (committable) offers. These non committable offers also inflate the star ranking system which is why there is a lot of players that don't pan out. Kenwood lost in the first round of the playoffs. No team with the amount of "studs" that Kenwood has should lose in the first round. Are they players really studs or do they have a coach on the staff that knows how to get verbal offers for kids.

I think class of 22 was excellent in the Chicago area. I think this staff is recruiting more based on who fits their system versus the "hype".

A good reason why relationships with high school coaches is so important. They need to understand what BB is looking for and that he doesn’t care about how many * a kid has.

It seems like I haven’t seen as many offers going out to TX high schoolers under BB as we did with Lovie, so I checked out 24/7 to see if I just am misremembering. Last year according to that site BB offered 14 players from that state out of about 170. Thus far this year, BB has made 7 such offers out of about 105. In 2021, 39 offers went to TX high schoolers out of 197. I know BB is emphasizing in-state recruits and seems to be hitting FL hard, with a large percentage of the rest of the offers going to kids within the BIG footprint. I like the approach BB is taking in IL and no problem with the other areas his hitting, just curious if anyone knows why somewhat less of an emphasis on TX? I mean right now they have as many offers out to NJ high schoolers as TX ones. Just a matter of that is where BB and staff have better relationships?

Could just be due to staff connections. With our new OC coming in with Arkansas abs Texas connections, I’d be surprised if we didn’t see that number rise over the next couple years. There are some very talented football programs within short drives of UTSA. I’d be SHOCKED if he wasn’t at least aware of them.

Surprised no offer for TJ McMillen of Wheaton. Looks like a OC prospect. Nebraska just offered apparently.
