Wonder how a game like this plays with the recruits. Excited to hear some news...

Good question. As a non-fans, I also wondered how they felt about what they saw. It could have been better I suppose, but it sure could have been a lot worse with all the things that went wrong. I’m hopeful they saw enough to swing a couple guys our way. I’m not sure we will hear anything for a while though.

I think the atmosphere may have been the big takeaway for recruits. They want to know they’ll be playing in front of good sized crowds. I wonder if the better players in IL like Jyaire Hill aren’t just looking for that one or two things to “allow” them to choose Illinois. Winning would certainly be one. Crowd/atmosphere could be one. And if you’re a defensive player, last night’s impressive performance could be one. Keep stacking reasons.

Iowa had a couple Illinois hs players making plays yesterday. Need to do much better than we have done the last 5 years. Games like the Wisky and Iowa game should make it easier for recruits to say yes.

A bunch of BIG teams virtually always have Illinois preps on their teams. Populous state vs less populous states thing. Mostly, anyway. The trick is landing a much higher percentage of the Plan A and Plan B kids, versus settling for the leftovers. Keep winning and the worm will turn (albeit too slowly for a good chunk of fans).

100% agree. The map + positions + early rankings are implying a strong in-state '24 class and good chances for a bunch of them. It's very early and a bunch of players will be added but there are currently 18 in-state 2024 prospects ranked in the top 600. There are only 10 in 2023.
