I mean thst's what scholarships are meant to be in an ideal world, but those are limitated by a lot of strict rules that don't really matter because most NIL bags arent for walkons.

......................

NIL in addition to scholarships.

But, NIL - the way it is set up - is very silly. It has created problems and solved nothing.

Alums should not be burdened with the costs of athletics - that is the problem of the AD to solve.

Long term I’m curious how sustainable the cash some of the programs are throwing out is. I mean how much merch can regular fans possibly buy. And then when the NFL doles out contracts the teams actually make money so the owner makes money. The college world is effectively rich people donating money to their respective football programs with minimal to no financial benefit.

Freeze isnt going anywhere
NCAA has ZERO power anymore. The most they will do if Auburn is guilty of anything will be to punish the nearest G5 school just to make a point.
In this case, Troy or UAB.
Hugh Freeze....remember the Ole Miss problem...not exactly the pillar of Ethics....now Auburn money man.

Also getting a degree from Berkeley is huge. Will very much miss him but will cheer him on out there.
Visited the campus with a family friend before she went there. It's really, really, nice and I hope they get their financials sorted out.

IF there is a HC who is not a "money man", then that coach is more than likely watching FB on his TV at home, like all of us.

NIL has made every coach a "money man". I fully expect this to get worse.

On a different note, are there college athletes, through NIL, being paid more than assistant coaches? Any idea?

Absolutely. There are a number of NIL deals that have been reported in the $1M+ category. Lots of assistant coaches don’t come close to that.

If Jones was 100 percent committed to us and more money didn’t matter to him, he most likely would’ve stayed but he didn’t so he wasn’t 100 percent committed to us. If I was BB I would be upset and frustrated as well because he put a lot of work into landing him and than he didn’t show any indication that he was going to back out leaving BB hanging. No bueno but oh well it happens and BB isn’t going to lose sleep over it.

An Athletic article (paywall) last week based on unattributed NIL conversations with top prospects at the Under Armour AA game would lead one to believe, at the very high end, NIL may be more than some assistants make. E.g., several 7 figure references (presumably over 4 years?) with a couple mentioning $3M+ over 4 years. Others mentioned $75k, an apartment and car, etc. and others said it wasn't as big a factor in their decision as you might expect (behind player development, etc.).

Just got out of a meeting myself and I assume Bret did as well when the news first dropped ... Got a text from a staff source that Bret is FIRED up over this one

Quite a few players taking to social media to voice their opinions as well ... FamILLy doesn't do that to FamILLy kind of message went out to the players ...

Whitman may need to order another trash can ... Brad & Bret = 2 ... Trash Cans = 0 ...

Jones flipping certainly sucks - but It seems there are still interior OL in the portal that could help next season.

A guy like Parr from Texas - former 4 star recruit, played in every game in 2020, but his coaches left and he got passed up by younger lineman - he's played both C and G and he's got 3 seasons of eligibility left. Given he's spent 3 years in the Texas weight program already and has played at the P5 level seems like he could start at C or G right away

He just retweeted about someone going to Ohio State. We will see if it was just a retweet or if it means he is heading there as well.

There are alumni that are filthy rich, alumni clubs where each member is loaded. They approach NIL as a game of bravado and who can bring in the stallions. I own a horse farm, I'll have player x do a commercial for said farm, wear my tee shirt and pay stallion 1million. It's that crazy and gonna escalate.

Rattler (SC Quarterback) - ~$2M in 2022.

And he just announced that he's returning in 2023, probably for much, much more than that.
