2 more spots open up today. It makes me wonder if we are going to be very active in the portal still or save the spot for the next year?

MSU stacked the box or cheated in. They knew we would not try to spread the field as we did not have a Consistent deep weapon. Next year will have us with more options at WR who will stretch the field and a QB who can sling it. The running game will be fine.

a QB who can sling it?

DeVito isn't exactly chopped liver. Lunney's game planning (and lack of confidence in DeVito) had a large impact on DeVito early and early mid-season. Yeah, DeVito doesn't have a cannon. But neither does Altmyer, apparently.

Altmyer is a good add, no doubt. But let's put down the Kool-Aid WRT rosy prognostications. If he matches TDV's production (next season), that's a smashing success in my book.

FWLIW, given a choice between accuracy and cannon, I'm taking accuracy every time.

I have no inside info but I would think we would be looking to backfill the DL spot.
Maybe this is the reason for the late offer to the DL recruit warren? Just speculating here, if intentions were known by the .

I sound like I’m in the minority, but I saw a nice jump from Love from last year to this year. Excited what he could bring to the table again next year.

As for McCray, was he never fully recovered from the injury early on? Or does he just need to find his confidence again? A full offseason should help either way.
I like what I saw in Love and a healthy McCray should be more like he was as a freshman. That said I would hope we add someone that is more of a three down back. Love may be that to some degree but I'd be fine if we added another proven transfer at RB. With the departure of Brown that should be more of a possibility.

IW, Bryant and Washington combined for 1,286 yards. That's not anything to scoff at. We have a bigger issue at RB than WR.
Without Brown at RB I wonder if we throw it around quite a bit more. Isiah played awesome vs Miss St and imo would be our #1 explosive offensive weapon. If he will see the ball like he did in that game then I am excited. If we are adding great additions along with bringing some up that exciting. While we may not be tossing it around like we did under Mike White, these additions can only lead to more exciting football. Plus I am excited about our highly toughed incoming QB. Dart is very talented and other SEC top back up QBs have done well elsewhere. Hopefully ours will too.

I'll let you talk to Bret on that one.

Remember, Altmyer has only appeared in 8 games, and one of the best things for an inexperienced QB is a good running game.

Dude, I did not say we wouldn't run. I do know Bret is a historically running first. However football is more and more about passing too. I am confident we will be a more of a passing team without Brown and more talented WRs. That doesn't not mean we won't run often and likely more than most...
Also Justin Fields, Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield and others touted QBs didn't play so they left and did awesome. Do expect that that yet? No, I do not but I know Lane Kiffin recruits very talented QBs and develops them. Out of high school he is likely higher than anyone in our roster or any QB we have had in a long time. So yes I am optimistic! I do think we will throw much more next season.

Brandon Peters and Isaiah Williams were both ranked higher than Altmyer

We have a history of landing 3 and 4 star QBs...landing not developing. Times are different now

I think those QB's(adding Joe Burrow) are going to be the exception. Not saying Altmyer won't get a fair chance to sling it, but all I really want from him is some DeVito style consistency, with the expectation that 2024 possibly 2025 is where he will have his best ball.

But a lot of it really depends on Lunney continuing to build consistency as a play caller.

I want that or more from Luke next season. Dart was rated 69 in 247 and is very good.
After Luke's time at Ole Miss under a very good QB coach he will do well. The biggest adjustment will be learning the system. I expect more from him eventually than TD. Luke can run and I know Devito exceeded expectations and Luke can as well.
