New CB from Werner on a QB

Currently visiting Illinois. Interesting contrast of the recruiting sites on his talent. Rivals has him as the 24th best QB (which is low 4* on 247's ranking) but 247 has him as 96th best QB (low 3*).

I'm no QB expert, so here for others to evaluate...he appears to throw deep/with some pace with reasonable ease, moves around pretty well, throws well on the run, not a big time runner but not shy/slow either. What do others think?

I mean, I'd take him in a heartbeat, but didn't think WR was that high of a priority given who we've got. ???
Not saying we land him, but when an elite talent becomes available and you have some ties to him you reach out to him.

WR might not be a priority...same time not like we are loaded like Ohio State who keeps churning them out each year. One injury to key pieces and some of our strengths don't look as strong anymore.

Yeah I don't think we have a chance here but not writing it off *just* yet.

Depending on how quickly he reached puberty and how much more room he has to develop, I’d strongly advise this kid to consider track as his top sport. I’ve seen HS kids drop from 11.2 to 10.6 over the course of a season and from 22.8ish to 21.7 in the 200. And those were seniors taking their last leap in development. He’s got 4 years to drop those times. Low 10 and low 20 aren’t out of his possibility. Why kill your body playing football?

You know much more than me. I just shared it because my son sent it to me. I know some Cooks and they were all great athletes here in Decatur. Mostly hoopers though.

Looks like lovie had an eye for talent but couldn't develop- Do we think Beliema will be able to evaluate talent at the same level?
I think/hope coach Henry has that covered. The conversation Coach B had with Robert he went over notes he took on the players he inherited and he had *special* next to Spoon along with the features that separated him from the pack. I have confidence they know what to look for.

I was just saying I’d bring that up to the kid if I knew him. American culture doesn’t really put track up there with football and basketball, and honestly, if I wasn’t a track coach, I wouldn’t either. It’s given me new perspective. But with his measurables, it’s pretty easy to see why he’d be a great football player too.

Its probably the payday in football he is chasing. Can you become a millionaire overnight in track as easily as you can playing football? That is a question you would know the answer to most likely. I have no idea. I speculate money/fame are really big drivers to consider why track studs go to football and destroy their bodies. I do agree that it does. I only played through high school and no doubt, a lot of my neck and back problems are from trying to hit people as hard as humanly possible.
