Please tell me you don’t think Brenly originated that phrase. Think it dates back to 1920s or ‘30s.
"Tools of ignorance" is a nickname for the catcher's equipment. Coined by catcher Herold "Muddy" Ruel, who played from 1915 through 1934, the term is meant to point out the irony that a player with the intelligence needed to be effective behind the plate would be foolish enough to play a position that required so much safety equipment.

Good old Muddy Ruel. Never heard of him until now, but evidently he was a wordsmith.

I’ll tell ya what … I talk to a LOT of people in the sports world … The guys on this staff have got to be some of the most down to earth, genuine dudes … And that’s no 🐂💩

I mean if I was a parent of a recruit … It would be very hard to not steer my kid this direction … I see why we have such a high hit rate on kids that we get here for visits … Bret knows what he’s doing …
Let’s teach Indy some lingo here that the kids are saying. “And that’s no cap”

Full marks that you're a TAM graduate. Stellar department. My frosh roommate was a TAM major. ME here (well, we're all one big happy MechSE family now, I suppose!) When I visited campus last summer visited Talbot and was bummed to see that they filled in the big bay and the Iron Giant concrete crusher apparently is no more. Newmark has one, I believe, but it lacks the majesty of its Talbot cousin. [EDIT: and, yeah, grateful and honored that I got to study what and where I did.]

Oh wow, had no idea the crusher was gone! Been a long time since I was back on campus... I actually majored in Aerospace Engineering (well that and Chemical Engineering, though I haven't put the ChemE degree to much use). I think when I got there they moved the TAM majors out to make room for the cages on the second floor they kept us AAE majors in.

What would you say is the difference between Bret and Brad and the culture they've developed?
