Really odd for Nebraska to only recruit Pyfrom as a guard. I get that you want to be transparent on fit but you can frame those discussions about being open to tackle if he can prove himself in camp, etc. But I don't know their scheme so maybe it's more obvious to their fanbase on why he is a better fit at guard than tackle.
Apparently they have 4 OL commits already and going hard for a 4 star named Brix. Also weird that 247 says three of those four Nebraska commits are IOL though.

Assuming there are five scholarship left for prep recruits AND that I am bound by players with a plausible likelihood of going to Illinois, here are my preferred picks (no order):

(1) Darrion Dupree (RB)
(2) Xavier Lucas (S)
(3) Brett Carroll (G)
(4) Deylen Platt (CB)
(5) Josaiah Knight (DE)

Caveats: Illinois will likely have 1-2 spots of wiggle room in case Lightfoot, Knight, Williams, etc. decide to come to Illinois. Same situation applies for a in-state late bloomer like Rolder :)cry:). Hollinger seems extremely likely to commit to Illinois, with may mean they're either (a) going to offer more than five additional scholarships, (b) they're done with offensive line if Carroll turns them down, (c) or they only take one more defensive back. There are still a lot of defensive backs they are prioritizing (R. Knight, Lucas, Platt, Levy), which makes me think they want more than one. Bielema's tweets are working really hard on Ricky Knight. If that doesn't work out, maybe the staff makes a final push on Lucas and Platt with the first to take the offer, gets the offer.

R. Knight, J. Knight, Hollinger, and Valentine are all deciding within the next week and a half. If all of those break towards Illinois, recruiting could be effectively done by early July besides Lightfoot.

I have to say, both Nebraska and Oklahoma have to be wondering what the hell in bizarroland is going on right now. Have either lost multiple recruits to Illinois in their entire program history? And now losing multiple recruiting battles to Illinois in a single recruiting cycle? The end of an era. I'm loving this.

No you’re wrong. Not the end of an era - the beginning of one 🙂

Yeah prepared to have my heart broken Monday hehe

And if he does go elsewhere … We will continue to fight for it … Just like we did with Elzy …

But I will say … There’s some word getting out there that it might be Illinois … Coming from people around him … I’ve heard Ohio State and Illinois … One person told me he thought it was Ohio State but Illinois came on strong and Charlie really impressed the family … Other one said … It’ll probably be Ohio State … But honestly if Illinois keeps on him … I could see it happening depending on who else Ohio State might take …

Not holding my breath but sure would be cool!

Local/social media has been hyping up Charlie and ML just came off his OV where he had some time with Charlie to talk candidly.

If anything, we’ve put ourselves in a position to get him. Sometimes beating out Goliath is just too difficult, though.

Ohio State probably put the pressure on to commit

I just am honest-to-God flabbergasted at the recognition Illinois has gotten with recruits this year. I know we arent landing 5 star guys, but we’re in conversations, LEGIT conversations, with high end 4-stars and so many highly recognized recruits.

Winning talks, I get that, and our defense last year was historic. But this recruiting cycle is all on the coaches. They’ve done about everything right you’d want your coaches to do.

This is a fun time to be an Illinois fan.

Now… if we land Lightfoot…. Oh Lordy!

Saban and Harbaugh were successful college coaches before going to the NFL much like Rhule

Spurrier, Petrino Mora and Riley were all very successful college coaches before being snagged by NFL then not doing as well in 2nd time around as college coach.
Hard to get hired from college to NFL unless you are successful.

My point is successful college, unsuccessful nfl does not necessarily mean you are successful in college 2nd time around. Rhule was a good hire by Nebraska but Frost was considered a good hire as well. Heck Lovie was considered a good hire.

I cannot even imagine how excited people were during the Zook recruiting years, because I'm ECSTATIC at the current developments! The difference this time around is that I think we have a truly great staff when it comes to player development and coaching.
Following the Arrelious Benn and Martez Wilson recruitments was something special.

People were excited for sure, but there was plenty of people saying "Zook can recruit but he can't coach" that tempered the expectations a little.

You don't hear anyone saying "BB can't coach" so I'd say that's even better. I'd cheer for them no matter what, but it's so much better to cheer for a well-coached team that doesn't shoot itself in the foot all the time.
