He took OV’s to Purdue, Indiana and Illinois after committing to Kansas so I don’t think he’s sold on Kansas.

I have a theory, this next post provides the key.
Maybe, maybe not. However, notice all of the schools that he is visiting. If I recalled right most of the schools in final five were schools like Illinois and Kansas. Heck Purdue's history looks like LSU's next to the others (sorry guys). I think Alexander legit wants to play for an underdog. It could be for reasons ranging from "wanting immediate playing time" to "wanting to go to of a rising power before it becomes a perennial conference contender."
what I find all the more strange in Alexanders case is, most players also want to be able to have family and friends easily see them play.
And that doesnt mean the school has to be 2 hours or less from home, but Kansas is an 8 hour drive from his home, and UI and Purdue are both less than 90 minutes away, and both would seemingly offer him opportunity to play fairly soon if he is indeed as good as they say.

from leaving home until you get to the stadium , that’s still 8 hours and maybe even an overnite before you get home
chicago heights to champaign is 95 minutes

Some recruit in this transfer portal is going to use a lower p5 school to get early playing time in which he use to get big NIL bucks by transferring to a more spend happy school, likely in the SEC.
(I am not at all insinuating it is Alexander at all btw)
well, I think those are likely all valid reasons why he picked them - but that is kind of obvious
One would think he also liked our coaches (seems like a lot of the recruits do) and we could also assume we had a viable plan for his talents as well.
I simply am curious as to why he would select a school not known for football (other than Gale Sayres 55 years ago) and far enough away from home that makes it hard for family to go to home games and away games.
Im never really surprised when kids pick OSU, ND or UM or Wiscy over us. Im never surprised when home grown kids picked USC or UCLA over us
But when we lose home grown area football players to teams like Kansas, Kentucky, Duke. WVU, or Syracuse, yea , Im surprised a little
