Unless that happens I don't see a huge difference. IW is a game changer. Recruits, transfer portal, etc things can still change.

Purdue lost a bunch of guys but they have stockpiled a bunch of 3-4 star WR talent as well. If IW comes back that changes the game, otherwise don't think the talent is night and day different. Hollins, Beatty, etc. Purdue has probably brought in 6-10 3-4 star WRs in the past year or two.

Main point is both have some talent and raw, not experience. Illinois has more experience at this time

Love IW and what he has meant to the program but would the limited NIL money be better spent on a couple of Offensive Tackles and D-linemen?

To get IW to come back you’d have to have some NIL stuff lined up that is separate from what you already have for the “team” pool.
I'm a bit surprised by this mostly because I don't see him getting drafted. Would an undrafted FA contract be more than what we can already offer in NLI?

Not a "responsibility." But it is the "reality" that to acquire top-line talent, boosters/fans need to pony up.

BTW, it's been this way since forever.
My husband and I are retired on a fixed income. We aren’t wealthy so we donated many, many thousands of hours working for the athletic department by organizing events and fundraisers through the Rockford Area Illini Club since we graduated in 1974. We also have always both felt it is crucially important to financially support our university so we are lifetime members of the U of I Alumni Association, have had season football tickets for 40 years, go to as many basketball games as we can, and have donated to the IFUND since we graduated. We recently joined ICON at the minimum of $25 a month (not a lot, I know, but all that’s in the budget right now) because we’d like Illinois to win every game in every single sport. If a lot of regular Illini fans don’t help through NIL, our teams will not have the talented players to be competitive, and Illinois will not win. I’ve said it before, and I’m going to say it again: All of those “fans” who complain that Illinois doesn’t get enough Five and Four stars and only gets Three stars, need to pony up, and put your money where your mouth is through ICON. We think of following/watching Illinois sports as our most fun hobby, and NIL is the cost of making it even more fun.

His name is John Haddock. Son of a longshore fisherman from Kennebunkport, ME. He has a mustache.
Excellent post except for the city, Kennebunkport is just in a bigger than Rushville, IL and it is way to easy for someone there to blow our cover. It would suggest John Haddock be from Ogden, UT or San Jose, CA instead.

Excellent post and thank you for supporting the Illini through all of your giving (y)

We are all in different walks of life. In my 40s and I donate a small amount to the University. Raising a family, spending some leisure money on other sports, vacations, etc all play into it. I look at it as hobby and penny stock scenario. I am donating a small amount to the cause and thrilled if I see any ROI. Doubt I will ever give a huge amount unless more restrictions/rules get put in place for the whole NIL scenario. Majority of these men/women get scholarships and other incentives. They aren't living the Ramen or PB&J life. Majority of the players have pages where you can have them sign an autograph, greeting, etc for a fee. I am glad athletes are compensated but I don't feel that "everyday fans" have any obligation to donate by monetary form. People need all of the information.....

I will pass on Coleman Hawkins autograph :ROFLMAO:

How has the Thad Ward reunion been? I view the rb coach as a primary recruiting type position on the staff. CPatt got us a few players and Thad has since taken on that spot, what area has Thad's focus been on? Is he in on more than I think and see and he is just a little more quiet these days?

Good question. I thought Thad was one of Lovie's best recruiters.

Thads been fine. Worked wonders with that room this year with all the injuries. Thads always been a Chicago and metro area guy but he’s got some national ties too.
