5 years ago Iowa coaches were recruiting against us by telling recruits the Illinois football program was irreparably broken, nothing could ever make it competitive again. My guess is their negative recruiting pitch has changed given Bielema's time here.

Recruiting rankings don’t mean much once you get past the very elite kids. We’re not in that elite circle but that doesn’t mean we’re not competitive in the middle. I like how competitive we are against everyone

This is an excellent post and no doubt about that first sentence. This recruiting class is one to be jazzed about for Illini fans. I see a lot of grit and skill from this group.

That goes both ways though. Recruiting is now an eight year endeavor. You get the guys you can but if someone our staff wants goes somewhere else I am sure they stay in their ear about what they could do down in Champaign.

If there is one thing I truly trust/love about this staff is how strong the relationships are with our players case in point all the stuff that has come out about TDV and BB.

That’s why I was all for the hire although received backlash. dwelling on history puts you behind growth process. Hot seat is missing another bowl annd losing games you had won. Can’t be complacent and heat can be a good motivator. Enjoy the off season.
