I still believe it is folly to try and compare BB's Wisconsin recruiting vs his Illinois recruiting. He started at both jobs with insanely different levels of roster experience/talent. I don't think it's fair.... yet. Once BB has taken us to 3 consecutive bowl games, then perhaps you can compare that possible 4th bowl season year here at Illinois to his 1st year at Wisconsin.
I don't think it's a matter of fair, it is what it is. He recruited better at Wisconsin than he has so far at Illinois. I think a big takeaway from mhuml's post is a counterpoint to the common notion of "bret didn't recruit at a high level at Wisconsin and had conference championships". His recruiting there was good and that's what we should strive for

if you don't think where a program is (relative to others) when you take over, especially WRT recruiting, no further discussion about it necessary

Purdue is gonna lose some guys we barely missed on after this year … Williams is one of those …

He's gotten a bunch of offers in the past two weeks.

Demeco Kennedy?

Sign me up. He's played in three games as a true freshman.

Lots of football left this year, but this is the death spiral for coaches: growing disappointment from on-field results leads to less fan NIL support, which means you lose current roster players as other programs circle, you still don't have any funds to replace them with other transfers, and you can add HS preps but they won't be able to help improve on-field results for 2-3 years.

At that point, you almost have to fire and hire to reboot fan excitement and rally NIL donations.

Still a lot of football left to play but things can get interested if Purdue ends up 2-10. The coaching carousel will be busy

Begs the question how smart a practice is it to hire for your new head coach a coordinator from within conference who has lost to you 2 years in a row. Not saying either of those two losses were on Walters, and certainly coordinators have gotten the head job at other schools within a conference, but I always thought it was a little strange. And actually if you go back to Missouri days, his record against Purdue is 1-3.

you think they would get rid of Walters after year 2 ? at Purdue ?

I don’t see it . I think they gotta give him 4 years . He’s been recruiting decently

They will give him 3 years max if they don't make it to a bowl next year. He didn't walk into a total rebuild--he walked into a team that had made the Big Ten Championship the year before.
