Actually, that invents a loser from among three solid winners. Also the rest of us lose out from asking the question that way. You get the same info but more, and the reasoning behind it by challenging the many competitors on this board with this invitation; "Pitch the two [of said three] players deserving the most NIL and why, in under 50 words."

To me it comes down to building and maintaining an identity. Let's be clear, I want 0440 to be right and all three back.
But if not, then Davis supports our head coach's long-term strategy of building a strong OL and establishing the run to wear down opponents. And Scott supports Illinois' more recent identity as DBU, which helps us recruit.

No seriously the kid will commit when he’s ready. Patience. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t for various reasons and motives but who wouldn’t want to be part of this? A lot of players that we were in on last year or have left have regretted it.

I believe all schools can do direct payments to athletes up to $22MM starting next season.
IIRC, JW is going to spend the full $22MM every year. Maybe $13MM is our share of those funds for football and the remainder is for MBB. Other schools might be throwing everything behind football and/or have higher NIL funds when considering outside donations. Hard to know what Bret is referring to with NIL - payments from school or through NIL funds…maybe it’s just easier to bucket as NIL.
Best I can make sense of it as we navigate uncharted waters. As one insider once said, “there’s NIL and then there’s NIL.”
